Our numbers have gone up significantly here, the North being the worst ...

"Soccer team players from the region, faithful from religious groups ... are pulling up the numbers for Covid-19, in the Algarve... According to data from the Regional Health Authority, there are 82 new cases of Covid-19 in the region, which has raised the cumulative total since the beginning of the pandemic to 3803.

In hospitals, there are now 49 people infected with the new coronavirus admitted, 9 of which in intensive care, an increase of one person, in both cases."

Why do they allow football to continue and religious activities? I just don't understand football being allowed ti continue with the huddles and cuddles (in Portugal, England, the US etc where all teams seem infected) and religious gatherings. My mother died when I was seven (we were Catholic) but I remember her telling me that God was everywhere and you could pray to him in front of the fridge. Why do people have to congregate in a church?

          In what way?
What are they doing what they shouldn't be doing ?
And one final question  What exactly are the "rules"?

I'm calling it Rules because I thought it was backed up by fines so its really a bit more than guidance.

It all seems a bit iffy to me.

In my opinion ... not wearing masks in appropriate places, perhaps not keeping hands clean and not keeping their distances which I think is important.

We went out today, first to the Portuguese cat charity shop to deliver crochet items I have made and give a cash donation. We came home for 30 minutes then went to our "Englidh" restaurant (he English, she Columbian) for lunch where they have a chariity shop attached, where I bought the garden bench. Everywhere everyone abided by the rules. It is easy and simple. Okay, we know most folk so are a bit closer than 2 meters, maybe half but we were not wearing masks as we were eating/drinking. Simplz. The only problem was the sun had hidden ... but it was 20c so hey ho!

Well for a start, the guy that was waiting for a bus, sneezing into his hands and then getting on the bus without a mask touching the handrails as he walked to the rear of the bus.
Who knows what germs he had on his hands.

                  Oh, those old rules,

"To reduce the risk of catching or spreading coronavirus, you should minimise time spent outside your home,"

Thing is @pete, go into any supermarket, and you’ll see folks pushing past each other. Social gatherings like house parties, raves etc, are still going on. I tend to assume everyone has it when I’m out, and act accordingly.

Well its not really possible in a supermarket.

They can make the rules but the practicalities of some of it is not always possible.

I agree raves should be stopped and they are when found.

But there are so many shops open this time that traffic isn't much different to normal times.
And bear in mind most people are still actually working.

Families are carrying on as normal around here, just as they did in the first lockdown.

I’ve just been watching the local news. They were speaking to some chap (in charge?) to do with the Cheltenham race course. He was saying about how tough things are at the moment, and yes, they are. But I couldn’t help casting my mind back to when they decided it was a good idea to go ahead with the Cheltenham Festival, back in March.

I actually think keeping a safe distance is quite easy, if everyone plays the game.
Yes, folks are still at work, but I suppose this is where the gov have to try and strike a balance between health and the economy.
“Families are carrying on as normal around here, just as they did in the first lockdown.”

And that’s what I’ve been saying all along, folks aren’t following the guidance/rules

Good point Freddie ,but you must realise it is the Sport of Kings and the Queen is an owner breeder...............So what chance have we got.

It is Tattersalls horse sales season at the moment ,where horses change hands for millions (Guineas that is) there are buyers from all over the world .

The Newmarket racing fraternity are carrying on regardless ,but we have lots of fresh air here and plenty of distance................and COVID is pretty low

The Cheltenham Festival almost cemented our fate as far as I am concerned - we should have been halting everything like that from going ahead even a couple of weeks before that point, but as seems to have been the way with this from the start there were mixed messages along with rules that seem to apply to some and not others.
