When good science is suppressed by the medical-political complex, people die

Politicians and governments are suppressing science. They do so in the public interest, they say, to accelerate availability of diagnostics and treatments. They do so to support innovation, to bring products to market at unprecedented speed. Both of these reasons are partly plausible; the greatest deceptions are founded in a grain of truth. But the underlying behaviour is troubling.

Science is being suppressed for political and financial gain. Covid-19 has unleashed state corruption on a grand scale, and it is harmful to public health.1 Politicians and industry are responsible for this opportunistic embezzlement. So too are scientists and health experts. The pandemic has revealed how the medical-political complex can be manipulated in an emergency—a time when it is even more important to safeguard science.

:wow: that is brave of the BMJ to publish that!

Tell me what that actually says and I might agree, but it sounds like double dutch to me.

It would appear to my layman's eye that they are saying much of what we have said here - actual science is not being listened to and politics is over-riding public health

But is it saying what should be done?
If its not then it's a waste of space.

I am not so sure that it is a waste of space - unless we have voices like those questioning on our behalf, how are we to know that the actions being taken are actually in our best interests? It is not as though any of us are able to ask questions directly of those in charge, or have the medical/scientific knowledge to know what to question and how.

I think the most important question in the whole article is - "How might science be safeguarded in these exceptional times?" I'm reasonably sure that I am not alone in complying with the guidance but not fully believing in all that we are being told, nor the science that is being used to remove our freedoms and liberties.

I'm complying with the guidance because what I'm doing seems logical to me but I'm not sure what would happen if it didn't seem logical. :noidea:

The Government's Covid-19 website is no longer providing details at Local Authority ward level, and now only gives an average for the entire e rates for towns

Where there were previously higher rates for towns than rural wards within L.A. areas, this will make those towns appear to have lower rates.

It is this sort of thing that cause people to raise an eyebrow and question things. There has been cover-ups, errors and downright corruption throughout this whole debacle, hence people do not always fully believe what they are being told.

Or they've dumbed it down because people were 'confused' with so much detail as most of the population probably don't know the name of their local electoral ward.

I'd like the information made available at individual postcode levels.

P.S. There's even been Parish Councillors here who didn't understand our parish boundaries, and tried to get involved in Hamlet's outside our parish that didn't have Parish Meetings.

Dumbing the data down is the wrong way to go, for the reasons mentioned - in this day and age, it should be entirely possible to present the data in levels that can be drilled down to postcode level
