I have my weekly shop delivered by Waitrose because I am self isolating and my neighbour has been doing odd bits of shopping for me. I would like to buy something for her but don’t really know much about her, she is 50 ish, complained about ants in her plant pots so must be a bit of a gardener and they appear to enjoy a “drink in the evening to get through the lockdown”. Her husband is completely uncommunicative so I don’t really want to ask him. Any suggestions will be warmly received.

Good afternoon in what way is he uncommunicative ,if its through his choice it is probably unwise to buy his wife a present if it were me I would ask him what he thought she would like as a gift;)

After 10 odd years, we have never had a conversation, he walks about with his nose in the air!

Whatever you buy, I suggest that you address it to both of them. She will know it's really because of her kindness and he will have nothing to grumble about. Perhaps a nice bottle of wine they can share over a meal? It would suggest you believe they appreciate the finer things in life and you don't object to their covid coping methods :)

Ah well, as it happens, in the summer, I had ants on my kitchen work top and had ordered some Nippon from Amazon for both of us.

Incidentally, some time ago my garden centre did not have any Nippon and I bought another brand but the ants totally ignored it, however the garden centre gave me my money back.

Lovely thought on your behalf.Who knows. Perhaps their relationship is not as one might wish. Good advice. Give a gift to both of them.

Thanks for all the advice folks, but I was really hoping for a gardening gift, as I already had champagne and chocs in mind.

Lovely thought :) How about a ready planted wintery basket? Pansies or heathers or the like... or perhaps a solar or battery light ornament? A thank you card is the important bit.

Brilliant, I think that she has some pots at the front, can’t see at the moment because her car is in the way, and assuming that they have a patio at the back then the kitchen and or lounge will look out onto the patio.

                    Should I avoid red flowers?

A reminder to the Husband, wrapped in bows and Christmas paper, to return all the Tools he has borrowed from me:thumbsup:

I think a nice bottle of Prosecco would be suitable, champers may be a bit over the top. I'd just give it to her with a thank you card. Trying to appease hubby will probably not work, and may cause a problem.

I’m now maybe thinking of a bottle of Baileys Cream Liqueur.

EDIT: I bought a ~ £10/12 bottle of red wine from Waitrose for them on the August bank holiday and although she was very pleased to receive it, she didn’t make any comment afterwards, so perhaps it wasn’t that good, hence as I’m not a wine connoisseur I’m tempted to stay away from giving her wine.
