We had a 0 degree night last week so the last Dahlias came up today. Likewise, the last baby toms. It's quite amazing how long they have survived and kept on ripening outdoors even up here. :)

Harvested self- dried Hydrangea blooms and some conifer branches for the Teenager who is really quite good in making ornamental arrangements.

...and had a little help in tending the smallest lawn, sown in a supermarket veg tray

It's now getting very cold out there. But hey, it's just 5 weeks and the days will start getting longer again. Time to start buying exiting seeds:hapydancsmil:

Ours go from March to November, last collection is this week. The cost works out about £1 per week. I haven't put anything in the bin for a while, it's been too wet to do much outside lately.

Don't want to upset you but our green waste (includes kitchen waste - even meat etc.) is collected every week of the year - and all collections are free. :blue thumb:

Some years back they tried charging for it and, before they started, I told them it would be a failure. It turned out to be much more costly for them to clear up the dumped recycling from the roadsides than it was to give a free collection. They should have studied the local social media groups (I sent them links) who were calling for the dumping of green waste as a protest. :dunno:

When they started it again their green waste figures went back up and helped the authority hit their targets. I think there's a possibility that it may happen again if the council cut back their spending because of Coronavirus (none of the officers that were in the department in those days are still there, so there won't be any memory of what happened).

I've been hacking at the ground to break up the compaction of heavy machinery again, all along the patio this time and shifting mud from top of garden to level up the ground to patio edge. Back breaking stuff!
Only annoying thing is not being able to germinate grass seed to get the lawn going. Can't seem to find anywhere here with a stock of turf and I'm not paying delivery charges on it!

Well, nothing, in this world, is free as it's all worked into the overall cost of the Rates:dunno: but it's the same here, there's no separation between General Rates and Green Waste collection so it's just included in the overall annual rates. I don't mind that there's no green waste collection just before Christmas until the end of January as, by then, everything is tidied and sorted in the garden and, anyway 99% of my garden waste goes in the Compost Bins and then back onto the borders.

I'm not upset by it @shiney, as @ARMANDII has said it is probably included in the council tax which for your area must be quite a bit higher then here.
I only joined the scheme this year. I used to take the waste to the tip in our big wheelchair adapted car but since I don't need that now and have changed it for a small car there isn't enough room to take stuff to the tip.

Our kitchen waste is collected every week and that includes everything as it is for you, and they give us the recyclable bags to put it in. Maybe I'll start making compost again though, I used to do it years ago.

It was interesting to read your post :)

                        Thanks, both :blue thumb:

I'm pretty sure that they have included it in our council tax as it is certainly high enough - so one way or another they make us pay for it. That's why people have protested in the past. They also have a waste lorry that tours the villages every Sunday from April until November so that people can take their green waste to that site in the village. That saves the 20 mile round trip to the nearest collection centre.

We have an enormous amount of green waste and have five large compost heaps. We also have two large green waste bins and the heavier stuff gets burnt on the bonfire.

We still manage to fill the wheelie bins all through the winter :phew: Our neighbour, on one side, puts all his grass cuttings on our compost heaps and we use his wheelie bin for some of the nasty weeds (we have an overabundance of those!). As each household is only allowed one green wheelie bin I have a special licence for my second one (after being inspected to see how much recycling we already do and how wildlife friendly we keep the garden :blue thumb:).

Ours are collected all year round too, not that we use the scheme but my Dad did.:blue thumb: There is no limit to how many.

We hardly have enough waste for the collection anyway. We put out our domestic waste only once a month ..even then it's only about half full. Recycling goes out every 6 weeks. Glass every 3 months. Our collection team even congratulate us on our lack of waste.:heehee:

We have a green bin to recycle plastic glass cardboard and paper, that gets collected every fortnight

A grey bin to put kitchen waste and anything else that gets collected a fortnight but i compost the veg scraps any cardboard and paper .
Can have a brown one for garden waste but i recycle a lot of that. We would be charged for and not all year.

We have a two Bin (Grey and Green), and a two box (Red and Green) waste collection system. Grey Bin for non-recyclable, Green Bin for Garden Waste, Red Box for plastic, metal. paper, cardboard, Green Box for glass. They have supplied us with a small brown box for food waste but my Parents:love30: were not high income and used to make marvellous meals out of basically nothing so, as there's no waste food in this Household, maybe their ingenuity has led to me not wasting food.!!
My friends in Manchester have, I think, up to 6 differently coloured Bins, (perhaps two of those being substitutes for boxes), but that's an awful lot of bins to have to store somewhere.:dunno::doh:
I think my Garage is also a "Waste" collection point as I have a lot of stuff in there that I've kept over the years "as I might need it later". :heehee: But it's rare that I don't find something in the Garage that isn't a solution to a mechanical/electrical/practical problem; even yesterday I had to delve into my "National" Collection of Nuts/Bolts and Screws to find some 30 year old nuts to fit some newly bought U Bolts whose Nuts were faulty:yes:
