There are nearly five million people in the first two categories. By the time those have had the vaccination there should be sufficient vaccinations for the next categories. The more that are given, the more streamlining there is bound to be so @pete they may get to you quicker than you thought :blue thumb: :heehee:

        I've just had a thought:scratch:
Bearing in mind the elderly are probably not the spreaders, wondering if it would be better to vaccinate those that are spreading, rather than those that are catching, if you get my thinking.

My thoughts on giving vaccinations is that everyone should just turn up at these places with sleeve rolled up and stand in a line getting jabbed, all this messing around going in separate rooms and people turning up with loads of clothes on is just time consuming.

:hapydancsmil:So instead of a fine for being out and about, you get jabbed. Good idea

I’ve seen this notion elsewhere. I think the problem with that is that they don’t know (yet) whether or not if someone who has had the vaccine might still be a carrier. Yes, it will protect you, but you might still be shedding the virus. Makes sense to me then to give it to those at risk.

But loads of those first in line will be elderly and Ill, bedridden, dementia suffering, incontinent and unable to queue, possibly partially outdoors in December/January, plus bring them back again 3 weeks later for their 2nd jab.

I've just been listening to some medical 'experts' on the matter and they 'think' that you are unlikely to be shedding the virus as the vaccines have no live virus in them. They have something (can't remember the wording) that targets the most dangerous part of the virus if it attacks you and stops it from surviving. :dunno:

Well, yes I agree, but those who are fit and healthy could be treated differently.

                  From the inimitable Pam Ayres:-

I'm normally a social girl I love to meet my mates
But lately with the virus here We can't go out the gates
You see, we are the 'oldies’ now We need to stay inside
If they haven't seen us for a while They'll think we've upped and died
They'll never know the things we did Before we got this old
There wasn't any Facebook So not everything was told
We may seem sweet old ladies Who would never be uncouth
But we grew up in the 60s - If you only knew the truth!
There was sex and drugs and rock 'n roll The pill and miniskirts
We smoked, we drank, we partied And were quite outrageous flirts
Then we settled down, got married And turned into someone's mum
Somebody's wife, then nana, Who on earth did we become?
We didn't mind the change of pace Because our lives were full
But to bury us before we're dead Is like a red rag to a bull!
So here you find me stuck inside For four weeks, maybe more
I finally found myself again Then I had to close the door!
It didn’t really bother me I'd while away the hour
I'd bake for all the family But I've got no flaming flour!
Now Netflix is just wonderful I like a gutsy thriller
I'm swooning over Idris Or some random sexy killer
At least I've got a stash of booze For when I'm being idle
There's wine and whiskey, even gin If I'm feeling suicidal!
So let's all drink to lockdown To recovery and health
And hope this awful virus Doesn't decimate our wealth
We'll all get through the crisis And be back to join our mates
Just hoping I'm not far too wide To fit through the flaming gates!

I didn't think anybody in care homes were "fit and healthy".

And as for those of "80 years of age and over" in the tier below, just how long would it take either GPs or Occupational Therapists to individually assess their capabilities of attending vaccination centres?

Sounds like a massive time wasting exercise to me, that would delay everybody else's vaccinations.

That's not the thinking, as they will have 50 Hospitals, at first, offering Out Patients and In Patients over 80 years of age the jab while also giving the jab to NHS caring primarily for COVID 19 patients.
Then they will visit the Care Homes asap to vaccinate the Staff and Residents so that they don't have to leave the Care Homes. That, hopefully, will be done by GPs, Chemists, etc, then those over 65 years of age will be offered the jab, and so on........at least that's the plan, but the logistics of distributing the Vaccine while keeping it stable at -70C is going to be a major problem.
The Astra Zeneca Vaccine which can be kept at normal Fridge temperatures, should it be approved, will be a great help and ease a lot of the distribution problems. But, the number of people who will be able to vaccinate the Public is finite so I think that might be another problem.

Hiya shiney. That’s not what I meant. As far as I know, having the jab won’t necessarily stop you catching the virus and passing it on (this is the bit they don’t yet know)it just protects you. Therefore, even though you might have had the jab, it might still be the case that you might be passing on the virus.
