My Alba tablet went to the tech graveyard in the sky today.
I want to get myself a new one as a Xmas present to myself. problem is I am completely tech thick!
    I want a 10" screen.
    Wi Fi
    Email capable
    Camera??
Able to go online for Ebay etc
Games such as Scrabble and Jewels (like candy crush) can be downloaded but no complicated games as no interest and dont want to watch films or download music either.

I dont want to store lots of stuff on it, make phone calls, send texts or get it to mix me a G+T. Its just for when Im on the sofa with the tv on in the background and Im basically too lazy to get off my bum and use my PC.

What should I look for?? It seems some are £50 and some are £400!!!!! eerr no!
Any suggestions to point me in the right direction much appreciated.

Not a device I use, but often read about them in the techie magazines and the Amazon Fires always seem to be rated best of the budget ones.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/amazon-fir...-black-with-special-offers/dp/B07KD63BQ5?th=1

The specs look good for the price point and plenty of info on the web about what it can do.
Seems you can match it to other amazon tech stuff like Alexa, who will tell you how to mix your G&T

The problem with most such tablets is finding them in stock this time of year !
Amazon seem to have them, possibly Currys or Agros if you want to collect in person.

I love my Amazon Fire, I have two that I constantly use,one is on recharge while the other is in use.:) One is about 3yrs old and has a cracked screen :oopss: but apart from that it still works perfectly and the other one I got at the start of this year.

We have an Alexa Show too and the good thing about these tablets it that they have a Show mode too, so even if I'm in the garden/ greenhouse I never miss an incoming video call. :dbgrtmb:

Thank you folks for the advice.
I told you I was tech thick, I thought a Amazon Fire was a Kindle and could only be used for ready books on. That i something I will never want, it must be my age but I could never give up holding an actual book for my reading.
Will have another look on Argos and Currys websites.

I had this dilemma a few years ago, in the end the only one I felt was worth it was an ipad which I was shocked to find was cheaper than the Samsung!
We bought a Fire for our son but it is really heavy and very very Amazon...

Yes I agree it is obviously very ' Amazon' but think that's to be expected. It does everything I want though so I'm happy ....can't make a weight comparison, all I can add is that I have arthritis in my hands and haven't found it an issue.:)

If weight is a consideration the Samsung Tab A 10.1" 2019 is lighter and thinner than the Amazon. I have this tablet and it is noticeably lighter than MrsH's one.
          Argos price is £199
Currys have it available in Black and Gold ( silver is out of stock) at £159
Plenty cases available for them on Ebay/Amazon
As the saying goes you pays your money and takes your choice! These days though I don't think you will find a "bad" tablet, they are all quite amazing bits of kit.

          SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A 10.1" Tablet (2019) - 32 GB, Black

I bought my daughter a Samsung Tab A for when she was doing her dissertation in the bush out inTanzania, and I thought it heavy, slow and with poor screen, being used to lightweight Samsung Tab S

Gone the same route myself with an ipad mini as nobody else seems to produce a decent 8" tablet any more.

But the Samsung S series is top of the range £380 to £580 and is only 40 gm lighter. Upsydaisy wants a Tab to browse Ebay and play Candy Crush, the £150 ones are the ones to consider.

And I would buy another one (or two) if they still did them in an 8" version, now mine and Mrs Scrungee's are getting worn out.

The alternatives are just too heavy.

So it's now ipads for us.

Excuse me ,cheeky!! :yikes:..I have never browsed Ebay.. and I don't play any games either on my tablets!!!
May I ask why you assumed that's all I want to use my Fire Tablets for? I do all the normal things on it that you probably do on whatever you use.

My humblest apologies @Upsydaisy :chicken: It was ThePlantAssasin who requested a Tablet for browsing and Ebay etc. Hey, I browse Ebay and play games on mine 90% of the time, anything to kill an hour or two in tier 3
