I also think they will have caved in on fishing, the BBC keep saying its a tiny part regarding trade.
It probably is, so why is it such a sticking point for the EU?

Just points out that the EU is basically France and Germany, all the other countries are pretty insignificant.

Which is a really good reason to ...leave.:ideaIPB:

A quote from Mark Drakeford's twitter account - he is clearly not from Vulcan:

We need to see the full details but this is not the deal we would have negotiated.

He is already criticising a deal he has not read.

To be fair, it wouldn't matter what deal was negotiated, Labour, SNP, Lib Dems etc wouldn't be happy.

Honestly, I don't think fish have been sacrificed - it is a 5½ year deal that then ends as we wish, that gives us time to buy/build our own boats and get them in the water - we don't have enough currently anyway, so we are not going to be missing much.

All the rest of it seems reasonably agreeable to most sensible folks.

The fishing industry is not happy apparently - even though Boris is putting a few quid into the pot to get our fleet and fish processing plants up to scratch.

I may well be wrong, but I just heard that in 5 and a half years time we will control 2 thirds of our waters??

Now to me it was more about Control, which is different to quoters.

We dont have enough of a fishing fleet to fish our own waters anymore, thanks to the EU, but we should be able to issue quoters regarding all our waters.

So not sure where we stand, but the fishing industry dont seem happy.

From what I could gather the UK will control 100% of fishing waters but take 2/3 of the catch after 5half years but can be changed to take all the fish if wished, and I think the UK has kept its original EU fishing catch, but the EU will wield a tariff stick if doesn't get at least 1/3 of the catch from UK waters.

I don't think the fishing industry should complain its a win for them in my opinion , there catch has increased and still no tariffs to sell to the EU . It a loss for the EU fisherman and I reckon some are going to make a stink about it soon.

Once Macron slithers out of his sick bed he will veto the whole deal anyway....back to square one.

Not so, Wee Tam. I don't like Macron either, but he's been in the negotiations right up to the last even while suffering from Covid and he's pushed for the "14 year no change" in fishing rights all the way through while we were pushing for a maximum of 3 years. I don't think a five and a half years with vastly reduced quotas deal is bad. After the deal ends the French, and others, will demand access for fishing but it all depends who's in Government then.:dunno:

Well at least a deal has been agreed. Amen.

Changing the subject a little. We have seen the damage that can be caused by the French, either as in the latest Covid shut down, also in the past, french union disputes thgat have bought transport etc to a standstill. So no end of problems can come about, if anyone chucks the teddy bear out of the french pram.
Concerning the plight of all the lorries waiting to get across the water. It amazes me that the lorries are so ill equipped for long journeys. Surely portaloos such as caravans have, could be carried also a small fridge and microwave. Problems of cleaning up the roadside will attract attention.

You have to have a balance, the more a lorry weights mt the less you can carry, service's will have what you need, but some times you get caucht out that's why a plastic carry bags are a must, most long haul drivers will have all the basic's, then you get the rest when you are on the road, the worst bit is when you have no chosse to park up for a week or two, i work in a werehouse and one polish driver came in delived his load, when waited for a fax to come to our office with he's info for next load, fax in, driver next load was from UK to China and off he went

I haven't forgiven the French for burning our sheep alive back in the 90's, so this latest display only reaffirms my thoughts to be honest. I avoid French produce where I can (very easy), but sadly I do work for a French owned company since they bought us over

Apparently, not what I've seen but heard from litter pickers, the lorry drivers use plastic lemonade bottles for urine and throw them out as they are going along motorways.
The other stuff gets done where ever they park up overnight.

I do have sympathy for them, there is no where near enough overnight parking areas with services for the amount we get around here.

Hopefully we can now ban live exports,(the EU wouldn't let us do it), but it will upset a lot of farmers, mainly in Wales I believe.
