The more I hear the more there seems to be to find out.

I think bearing in mind I have the combi microwave I'm probably looking for a replacement for the deep fat fryer.
So a small air fryer with some kind of agitator.

The one I have got, Freddy, doesn't have an agitator but all of the ones I researched before buying didn't either:dunno: You pull out the basket whenever you want during the cooking and shake the basket and contents that.:dunno:

Agree I do not do my chips in the halogen, I know some halogen ovens come with the chip cooking thing, but as Stated earlier, home made chips, twice cooked in a fryer, with regular oil change for me, just have to work a bit harder to burn the calories.

As I said, we have the Breville ‘Halo’. I’ve had a look but it seems like they no longer produce that particular type. There is though the Tefal ‘Actifry’ that uses a ‘paddle’ to stir, not cheap though, maybe £100? As an aside, we usually only cook the frozen (oven) chips as fresh cut chips aren’t, to me, that great. It’s recommended that you only use a tablespoon of oil, but I generally use a couple or so. I meant to say...with the halogen oven, although it does have a fan, a lot of the heat is radiated, which can mean some chips will be burnt at the edges, before the rest is even cooked through. Just what I’ve found, not the law or anything

Yours will pretty much cook everything, I certainly wouldn’t/couldn’t put a chicken (for instance) in mine. Pete is looking specifically for something to cook his chips in, and I can only speak of my own experience, with items I have used. If you say they make good chips, I wouldn’t doubt it, but I can only recommend something I’ve used.

Well my fryer is due for replacement, had it 3 yrs, I can get the same one for £20.
Looking at the air fryers, the cheapest is about £50, going up to £100 plus.
I do only use frozen chips, straight in from the freezer, not keen on spending time making something like a chip.

And I do prefer the frozen ones.:smile:

A question, if you put a spoon full of oil in, how does it get on the chips/food?

In the case of this one, the oil is simply distributed as the chips are agitated. I imagine with others you’d have to stir the oil through.

I think you have sorted me out @Freddy and @Cuttings
I'm sticking with the deep fat fryer, more I see the more I think that the chips will come out similar to oven chips.
And I can make them in the oven.

I wondered how long it would take  We used to have deep fat fryers, and must admit, they made really nice, greasy chips  I think that what let’s them down is, the amount of oil needed (not good for the health/waistline) and found them a real chore to clean.

You just roll the chips around the dish until they're all covered. If you want them really crisp you can spray the oil onto the chips while shaking them in the basket to make sure they all cooking.

I use our fan assisted gas oven for roasting (and most other things) and the spuds never take longer than 30 minutes. They go in just a little bit before the roast comes out to rest. The roast then rests, covered, in the grill oven which is immediately above the fan oven so is quite warm. :blue thumb:

I've bought one or two Air Fryer Recipe books and found a bit of a problem with them in my case. My Air Fryer is the Ninja Max which cooks at a top temperature of 200f and can be altered up and down to that maximum, but most of the books seem to be American and a lot of their recipes use temperatures of 390s/400f. That means you have to take no notice of their recommended cooking times but recalculate those times:wallbanging:.
So, now I've bought Cook Books specifically for the Ninja Max which give the cooking temperatures that that Air Fryer uses.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

I've got a philips airfryer and i used it a few times and it has then lived in the cupboard since. Had it about 4/5 years. Its got a digital screen on it. Its ok-but i think the basket is too small for the amount of chips i want to cook in one go . I've cooked fish in it which was quite nice.

i may give it a go in the new year and cook some meat in it-chicken wings maybe. Hmm.

Now I would like to see the fish to go on top of that portion of chips! Presume there is a bucket of mushy peas as a side. :heehee:
