Although there is some leeway and the Marie has the final say in all!Rules slightly vary but Bonfires basically not permitted. We did not realise this and often had a fire in one of those old drums with the top cut off..it was weeks before our previous neighbours had a word in our ear.. I have read that on certain dates at certain times they are permitted for some waste...never grass...We have refuge waste stations(dechettrie) that take as much waste, garden waste bricks white goods old batteries..skips for most categories of waste and of course recycling is highly encouraged. smaller waste sites near the Marie's Venue. Not keen on the new Marie as sad circumstances surround the previous Marie and nobody would take on the appointment...so the newbee is basically self appointed and a bit of a self self self attitude.

Sounds like you have your work cut out Loofah but good about the trees..happy trees they must be...

This morning the Garden was less sploggie but still cold, Sun about to appear once indoors again for a cuppa around 9.00am. Cats happy with just a quick walk about in fact Girlze sharpened her claws nipped over the the Pond area where her favorite grass is and then runs into the wood shed, very Habitual now in her senior years, that her in my Avator...
Did nothing in the garden until Husband says right you ok to help with cutting logs thinking morning...about 2.00 ok yep that's fine...well a little later, think 4.00pm would suit us better...Ok that's fine with me anytime. He came in with Saber as the cat had had enough of this walking about lark..I'm a cat I need sleep...So husband says shall we do it now..me..that's a good idea then an hour of logging and we can come in for a cup of coffee around 3.30ish... sorted...Men... yet its often women that are said to be indecisive...
Logs are a really important here and have a huge stock, as its our main heating source.

I was at the last event performed at the Finsbury Park Empire before they closed it in 1960. It was Emile Ford and the Checkmates :dbgrtmb:. They pulled the building down four years later - after Cliff Richard had finished filming The Young Ones in it. You would probably recognise it in the film.

A lot of areas in this country ban bonfires but, fortunately, round here we can have them. I have a giant bonfire about six or seven times a year :blue thumb:

Not quite that big :rolleyespink:. We have lots of trees and shrubs that need regular work done on them so I set the bonfire alight when it reaches about 6-7ft high and 6ft diameter. The neighbour then brings his burnable trimmings round to put on it (he doesn't actually being it round but drops it over the fence for me to collect. :heehee:

I never set the fire until the wind is blowing across the field at the back. The smoke doesn't bother anyone as the next village across the field is a mile away .

The ash gets put into some of our compost heaps to help the texture and to add potash. :)

I shall carry on removing dead and rotting leaves from the pots in the nursery beds. Just one more session should do it. :hapydancsmil:

Then it's back to sorting out empty pots and trays :phew:. Removal of the leaves will be the first thing and then being rather harsh about which ones get thrown out. With having cancelled opening our garden next year we don't need to be so careful about keeping any that might possibly be used. I've sent out a message to all our gardening friends saying they're welcome to them otherwise they shall be going to the great pothole in the sky. :heehee:

One wheelie bin already full up and two 70 litre compost bags full with ones that are no longer serviceable. I guess I shall end up filling another seven compost bags but shall label them serviceable and non-serviceable. The nons will fill the black bin when available. The others will be saved until February for others if they want them. They've all been used many times so have given good service. :blue thumb:

Dig up some parsnips for dinner, harvest last bulb fennel spotted the other day.
Then start work on extending bed at top of garden. This is a raised bed which gets plenty of sun and has good drainage, so dig out soil to about a foot down then add stones, carefully collected over the past 12months and refill with soil and smaller stones. Edge with bigger flatter rocks.
