Fair point and fully accepted, but does that not then prove that people will be coerced/forced to take the vaccine? What of those who cannot, for whatever medical reason, have the vaccine - are they to be sacked? What right does an employer have to dictate what medication you must take - it is the individual's body, not the employers.

I fully accept the H&S angle, and it is therefore in a similar vein to occupations where you must not have any alcohol (not even less than the legal driving minimum), must regularly test negative for recreational drugs etc - - but, alcohol and recreational drugs are optional; an individual's health is not, and I would not be comfortable one bit by having a situation where we have employers who can demand what vaccinations or medications are given to their staff.

Just my observation, but are GC Members the ONLY sensible, law-abiding citizens? It could be that we try to occupy our time and minds ... if not gardening then reading about plants/wildlife, buying seeds, planning ahead, etc.

No, it does not, FC. There comes innumerable times in our lives when we have to take decisions that are for the betterment of our economic, personal lives and the lives of others even though we may not like it and we could class it as a "sacrifice" of our rights as an individual..........but, that is Life and has nothing to do with "the individual rights" of a person, it's the real and practical facts of Life and Survival.
Don't mix up having to take what could be Life or Death sensible decisions about the safety and welfare of yourself, your family and others with principal ideas about human rights when contending with a Force of Nature that doesn't recognise such things.
Human Rights are intellectual and man made but time and again Natural Disasters and Pandemics have declared their ability to sweep such notions away without even realising they are there.
There is a thin veneer, as has been pointed by many people, between Civilisation and reverting to the Natural World going on right now where there is a real Law of the Jungle where rights, Human or other, are a unnatural and unrecognised thing and only our technology protects us from that.
The Human Rights of an individual are not even practiced fairly and evenly in any country.
We have all seen on the Media those people who had been resisting obeying even the basic rules of protection against Covid 19 because they claimed it was their Right to resist being coerced/forced" doing so or taking the vaccines and then realising, while lying in the bed of an ICU Ward struggling for breath and Life, that the Virus didn't/doesn't care. We do not have the right to use the shield of Human Rights whenever we want when we don't, individually, recognise the right of others to live and be protected in this area or others such as oppression etc.

By the time i get my covid jab, (Easter?) many millions will have had theirs.
So it will be quite apparent at that stage just how effective the vaccination is, and if it's keeping the majority safe I'd be a fool to refuse it.

Maybe at a young 64 years i was being optimistic but it'll happen when it happens.
(Hopefully before my summer holiday during July in Antigua)

                    A quote I like..

It's not that optimism solves all of life's problems: it's just that it can sometimes make the difference between coping and collapsing.:spinning:

As was stated earlier in this thread, they didn't know if the vaccine stopped you passing on the virus, and it only protects the person who has had the jab.

If that is so, then I dont really care if others have had it or not, that is up to them.

So I cant see why anyone should be that bothered about what others do.

I can see airlines and some businesses maybe needing you to show you have had it, but as to just being out in the street or in the shops, I think is of no interest.

Again, we are getting people telling other people what to do, its a very strange and scary prospect for the future, where governments set individuals against one another.

As you say, serious gardeners are always planning ahead, have tasks to occupy them all year round, taking an interest in the wildlife that visits their gardens, and further afield, perhaps also serious DIY'ers, preservers, foragers, etc.

And not the types who can't think of anything to do when there's no pubs open, no football, etc.

My view on the pandemic deniers and people who refuse a jab is fairly straighforward. No one must be forced to have a jab - that's not what the UK is about - but it should be made clear to them that they must be in full lock down until everybody who wants a jab has had one. A large fine for anybody breaking lockdown in such circumstances would probably be sufficient inducement.
