WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

Had a while outside. the composter up the end of our garden is no more so its a large heap that has spread out..shovel and dug in and moved it over about 1 metre..keen now..filled up our small trailer with garden waste that had accumulated around the garden in bags boxes and even a bucket full(By Me) Mr. W. never does that kind of thing..one job one time..haha..I know it off my heart ..think you might also soon....makes no different I do it my way he does it his way..works for me...now inside and cold hands warm and a nice cup of coffee and GC..

I do have to have a bit of a moan though..My xmas pressie was a new sewing machine..it went back to the online store within days...got it back yesterday repaired... and set it up today and guess what it still does not **********work..bit silly but things just get to you when you have all lined up some material and my old sun chair covers to re-cover and no working sewing machine..It is one of my favorite hobbies of a lifetime...Phoned them nothing..emailed them ans still waiting for a response. They seem such a well organised company with there own service dept as well...Rascol by name...

A good friend washes all possible food she buys before entering the house...I thought about that and have stored some parcels for a few days knowing whats in them and no urgent need to use them.. We are washing hands with gel on entering the food store and cleaning again before we leave the store. In one way and out another as directed...even some people seemed to not notice those huge signs plastered on the doors. We take a lot of care to not get close to others in store and do self serve check outs, some of our locals carry on doing what they have always done stand around chatting with others and shopping trolleys blocking where ever they end up!!!. Items we buy are not cleaned in general..occasionally they are...

 

Cleaned out the chickens and checked on the seeds down in the propagation area. Broad beans, cabbage and lettuce are up after only being sown on Wednesday, I also sowed some peas for shoots. Then had to carry out household chores, which are taking an age as I have no interest in going them .

You feel really good when those seeds sprout above the soil, now you have to nurse them a tad...with the changeable weather we are all getting....well most of us...

 

yes he does wash up, we have never got around to that idea of a machine because otherwise he cannot say..well I wash up for YOU don't I...

 

This morning I had to repot a large succulent which sits on the windowsill of the spare bedroom.
The window I was trying to open was stuck (one of those tilt and turns). Yanking hard, the whole thing crashed open, knocking the plant flying onto the floor!
Luckily, it landed on a gym mat and not the carpet. Most of the pot was filled with gravel, so there wasn't a lot of mess to clear up.
There's a bitterly cold wind today so I did the repotting down in the cellar... there's a CH radiator in there, plenty of light and a long stone worktop to work on.
I need to reclaim my heated trays which have been used in recent months to brew some wine... and before the beer is started, as has been hinted.
I can't wait to begin sowing seeds for the Spring, but am always tempted to start too soon. Is there anything I can sow yet, I'm in the far North?

Finally had some gardening time, 2 whole hours worth . Pulled a few weeds from the baths, replaced the plastic wire covering a drain with chicken sure and heavier bricks. Most of my time was then spent cutting back grass and plants around the pond. Had to use a shears and secateurs as too wet for strimmer. It looks much better now, although not particularly neat and tidy, but it's not meant to be neat and tidy. I then made a start on cutting back brambles from around a large Heather and Hebe. So good to be outside in fresh air ( actually very cold air ), sunshine and birds singing . Topped it off with coffee and homemade cake and a peruse of a Parkers catalogue. No intention of buying anything, just liked looking at the pictures
