Just received an e-mail telling me that the allotment car park is flooded - so people need to be aware of this. Well, the current lock down rules don't allow for travel by car for any non essential purpose - and that includes 'exercise' down the allotment. It's small breaches of the rules like this that we will all pay for. People nearby can still walk there, if they want to take the risk that is.

Connected to the end of my Allotment is a so called community allotment.

Nobody has done anything there all the time the virus has been going on.
Its just an overgrown mass of weeds, plants dead in pots in the greenhouses.

One person comes along twice a day to look at the chickens, when I last looked the living conditions for the chickens was pretty awful.

Now I would have though at a time like this wandering up to the allotment and doing a bit now and then would be good for people, they dont have to come into contact with anyone in the process.

What is the matter with people, its almost like an excuse not to do anything.

I saw a woman walk up to the fence the other day, and she just looked at the place, and threw her hands in the air.

Some crazy people about, or not about.

Are the rules different in Wales to the rest of the UK?

Covid 19 Emergency Measures – The National Allotment Society – National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners Ltd

"Can I visit the allotment with my family and friends?

You can use your plot to exercise once a day along with members of your household, your support bubble or one other person- subject to any additional rules for your particular site.

If you do wish to bring someone to assist with work on the plot, please ensure that that this is notified either to the Secretary or Site Manager so that they can authorise and are aware of who is on site. It is essential that no un-authorised people are allowed onto the plots for the duration of this emergency. Careful consideration should be given to introducing anyone over 70, those with underlying illness or pregnant women.

Can I drive to my plot? Yes, it is permissible to travel to access local green space to exercise."

Could you tip off the RSPCA, @pete? Plants dying is one thing, but surely they're not going to leave the chickens like that indefinitely?

            Well, a bit tricky.
I have to keep the right side of them as they are the lease holders to my allotment, and I dont pay them any rent, but apparently they could ask me to pay rent if they wanted to.

I did ring her up, the woman who is in charge of the charity who runs it, after I went down there and had a look through the wire, and she said they are fine, and they check them twice a day.
Which they do do, I think, but the run needs cleaning up a bit and the chickens were soaked.

She also said, they have had an asbestos scare, apparently someone dug up a piece of the old asbestos cement roofing, and you can imagine the reaction, total horror.
I find it all the time and just chuck it on the pile of rubble that I have.

But to be honest there was never any real enthusiasm with the place, just a lot of people standing around talking with the kids running round mostly

I don't think I've bought a bottle of French wine in decades as I usually prefer Australian, Californian, etc.:dunno:

The Department for Transport said "smart motorways are as safe as, or safer than, the conventional ones".

Of course, I can see it now...

Not really into moaning but!!!...Before Covid we only had a few dog walkers up our lane , and if it snowed it often laid undisturbed for days and looked so pretty, but now!!! IMG_20210124_090203.jpg

This was taken over an hour ago...we've also had numerous sledges go by too!!!

That confirms my point, clanless, that the "Smart" doesn't have anything to do with furthering the safety of Drivers, but the collection of traffic movements for further infrastructure and security use.:dunno:

So they take away the hard shoulder and call it another lane, then make a few laybys along the way for anyone who breaks down.
Then put gantries up for miles with speed limits and the dreaded red cross which tells us not to use that lane.

Usual outcome is you then have three solid lanes of lorries all doing 1 mile an hour faster than the other, and one lane yet again for anything travelling at 70 mph.

The red crosses telling you that a lane is blocked come into operation about 10 miles before obstruction and stay there, closing the lane, for about an hour after the obstruction is moved.
Then they wonder why people ignore them.

All it does is move the traffic faster to the next bottleneck a few miles on.

                                And its blood dangerous!.............
