Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place?

Finally went to Morrisons in MK. Got caught speeding on the empty dual-carriageway. Policeman on a motorway bridge firing his gun thingy at me. Oopsy. I slowed down quickly so hopefully I'm O.K. Got to play the 14 days waiting game now.

My body is aching today. Last night I did an extra pilates class with the small ball and it was a lot of work on the abdominals and obliques. Crikey, I can't half feel it now! Hopefully it will ease off for Thursday nights class.

Just sat in my super tidy "work" room now. I'd planned to get some cube storage etc from Ikea as there's one just down the road and it said click and collect available. Went to pay for it and it said nearest click and collect is NORWICH! So did a click and collect from Homebase and have built the units up. Shelf to go up tonight. Now I can actually do work without being sat in a **** hole.Got a few things to do that I can get on with now the room is tidy. Putting in another planning application for a carport....the delightful neighbours will like that.

Is anyone else struggling with "routine" during this lockdown? I can't seem to get into a routine at all. Every day seems to be merging into the next.

 

Yes, beneath the "lockdown lard" (as I call it) there is actually some muscle.

 

Always have to be in a routine with the boys, always the same time for walks and when I have to cook the dinner.

Because I'm at home all the time I feel like that.

 

What is it with you ladies? No offence or abuse intended. I remember with great affection. My old mum, always on the go. Cleaning the house, doing the laundry and most of all, in the kitchen....cooking, baking etc.
Thankfully my beloved Valerie was also like this, and our two daughters have carried on the tasks. So what is it. With the greatest respect. What is it about you ladies that you continue to slog on and on in the kitchen.

 

HIDE Mike, hide! I feel an avalanche coming

No offence taken here, and I remember well the times when that was the norm. Now life can be quite different for a woman. (Warning- heavy handed stereotyping ahead...) In the olden days the man had a demanding job so after the long day in the office sat down to smoke his pipe before enjoying the dinner.

Now the woman possibly has a demanding job so after she comes home she quickly tidies things up, puts the washing in, prepares a nourishing dinner, sorts out the bills and small repairs in the house, does the shopping. I'm not even mentioning any possible kids.

This is of course stereotyping to max, but it is reality that whilst the physical chores are taking less time by choice, or by solutions, the demands have not decreased. They have changed.

It is surprisingly tiring to do a job where you for example focus on charts and files and mess about with data for 8 hours. Regardless that you are just sitting down in front of a laptop. So the relaxation can be 4 hours in front of telly to unwind the head.

It's a different world and we all are in different situations, and importantly, have different characters. "Idleness" is no longer a sin, it's a way of living one's life and as long as it doesn't take anything away from others, is ok.

 

Mike I'm not like that I'd rather be in the garden away from hubby and his snoring.

 

Since Christmas to pass the time I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos about permaculture and wandering if i can add some, not all to my garden.
This is just one of them, he had the pond built and he planted it himself.

 

Kitchen!!! Oh no @Mike Allen that is definitely not my domain anymore thankfully!!!! Since hubs retired a couple of years ago I hardly venture in there to do anything ...except make a rare tea or coffee.

I have more important gardening duties to 'think' about now......seed selection time!

 

You've just reminded me what I'm supposed to be doing today @shiney . I am batch cooking some "healthy" cottage pie for the freezer because I cook every single day. I love cooking but lately it's become monotonous. I am really missing eating out at the moment.

Also waiting for a delivery of metal. Dave has a welder and grinder etc and is planning on making a copy of this for our wisteria and another for a climbing rose over our back gate.

Can't wait

My cooking duties are mostly over after years of cooking meals timed to suit numerous individual's daily routines and dietary requirements. Our own brood were bad enough in their latter years at home with us due to all going on to different colleges to do their A levels and so arriving home at varying times.Added to that were all the children I had the great pleasure to work with ( in most cases). They came and went during different times of the day, based on their parents work commitments and always returned home fully fed and watered! Some arrived at 4:30 am, while others didn't arrive until 4:00pm. Hubs was always home around 6:30pm.

On the whole I do enjoy cooking but having had to work around endlessly changing personally time schedules.....dampened the joy a tad.

That said.......hubs should've been a chef..he's brilliant.

 

Just watched this, it's about foods that are poisonous to dogs. Didn't know that there were so many.

 

My late Dad took over the Kitchen upon Retirement and was a very good cook and he took up Painting by numbers and then went free hand...he was very good.
He often done the cleaning the gardening DIY he was always busy and happy for being busy until he got very ill of course, that changes everything.
I am always doing stuff and so is Mr.W we both do whatever we want although I tend to do most of the cooking because I enjoy it. He was the 1st of five siblings so He is capable of most things..Like guess what he done this morning..He knows I write up a lot and said don't you dare tell anybody....of course I will laters

 

Today made some marmalade, at this time of year can get sevile oranges but i used Jaffa oranges and lemons, they make a sweeter marmalade, did 2 lots cooked in the pressure cooker then used the base and the sugar to bring it to setting point.
