Hi Gizmo, I think you might be pushing your self a bit too much with this idea.

Many thanks for your replys and support. Yes we have both got lots of health issues. So our idea for a pond was to bring in all wildlife into our garden with ponds mentioned how can all wildlife use it?

Well, I get all sorts of insects buzzing around during the Spring, Summer and Autumn around the pond, Gizmo, plus Frogs will turn up even in the most built up areas and, of course, the Birds will drink from the pond while also taking the odd insect or two, so it's a great addition for the garden.

I think this is where you need to plan a sloping area of perhaps pebbles on top of the liner leading into the pond. It allows wild life to get in and out easily.

Thanks for your reply another reason why we wanted a pond is while I was digging in the corner I came across either a frog or toad buried in the soil
May I ask how a frog will get in a raised pond I know they hop but surely they only hop into ponds if ground level not sure?

Frogs are great jumpers but normally just hop along unless they're needing to get over stones etc. I have around 20 to 30 Frogs in the Wildlife pond and, when I go for a wade to do some gently maintaining, they will sit on the banks and watch me even when I'm only inches away.
They can leap high and up to around 2' in length quite easily so you'll be amazed when you see them do it.

A raised pond, Gizmo, I thought it was going to be at ground level? When you're digging out the pond you can basically make one end into an extended shelf which slopes downwards from the edge of the pond down towards the end of the extended shelf. You can also put pebbles on the slope making it shallower and looking natural.

Thanks for your reply I think I am confused as well
I saw a post by Ricky on my thread about raised pond as uncertain if I could move 3 to 4 tons of soil due to health problems and where to put the soil

Maybe you should just take some time out for a day or so @Gizmo and decide what is going to work best for you. Have a look online at both liner and preformed ponds to gain ideas, etc. It's easy to get overwhelmed with a new project, especially when there's a lot of work involved and no-one to help.

I have a small preformed pond and also a large plastic pot that is being set up as a mini pond/ water feature. I have also recently acquired a corner bath that I will most likely turn into another wildlife pond. I'm not going to try and disguise that it is a bath. My view is that the wildlife won't care what the pond is actually made from, it's what's in it and around it that will determine if they like it or not. Having said all this I am intending to install a larger in ground pond. In my head I see a pond like ARMANDII's ( who wouldn't, it must be an amazing place to be ). But, that's in my head. Reality is something different.

That was based on a 7x5x2.5ft dug out straight down, if with sloping sides and shelves it will be less, but still probably a good 2cu mtrs of soil approx 2.5 ton.
The digging out could be easy or hard depending on what you find, its how to move it elsewhere in the garden or to a skip that can be very heavy and difficult.

As its in your garden, why not get /advertise for someone to dig it out and skip it for you for a reasonalble sum ? they do not need to go into your house so no worries there.

I'd be a bit careful who you might get to dig it out.
Charge the earth, literally, and just dig a bit of a hole then take the money and run.

I dont trust many people these days.;)

Many thanks for your replys all though I would like more of a natural pond I think to be honest it might be to much work for me on my own as I even get pain doing house work..
Anyway with this in mind Ricky gave me a idea with there pictures they showed me. The second picture looks more like a 50p but the first picture was a preformed pond with wood around it plants etc which might be easier for me to handle
                          Questions will be
1 can you have fish if so what size of preformed pond would be suitable.
2 can you get all wildlife including frogs. If so what is max height of preformed pond.
3 I would like my pump in the bottom of the pond with no fountain or just under the water pump size it around 18 inch high or would the hozelock easy clear 4500 have to be changed for different pump
4 how many goldfish could we have in a pond.
                          5. Would the wooden surround go green etc like the old pond did
                          6. What kind of waterfall would be suitable.
                          Thank you

Your getting ahead of your self again Gizmo
If it was me I'd find a pre formed pond that will fit in the space, remember to allow for the timber around the outside.

Not sure how you could put a waterfall on a pond like that but maybe there are things available.
