I was out pottering earlier getting some sun and came upon this. I think it is a shrub but there is no label! The leaf looks familiar but ...

Ah ha, could it be a Abutilon megapotamicum which died on me last year? If so, I am delighted as I had one many years ago.

 I have all of the above somewhere ... but this specimen is planted centrally in a clay pot which I would do with a new plant.

It is these elongulated smooth leaves at the top really puzzling me. All my Hibiscus are H rosa-sinensis and my Verbena all has fuzzy leaves.

Doesn't Verbena have square stems. They look round in the photos.

I put this through Plant Net on my phone and it came up with Hibiscus Trionum, followed by Hibiscus cannabinus.

                    Thanks for that Texas Pete.

What a puzzlement. I have never had those seeds but did buy some Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) seeds.

I think this is another wait till it flowers mystery.

You're right, as usual, @shiney  And now I look at the close-up photo, the lower leaves and axillary shoots do look more like a mallow of some sort. I've got Verbena on the brain at the mo, because there's a nasty, wild form as well as V. venosa trying to take over my borders :roflol:

I am 100% positive it is not, although there is a monstrous legal farm on the West Coast it is too far to blow seeds my way. My plant is very young.

I use to take it for medical purposes but found overall it was not for me..Had a joint just the once in the 60's, my bestest mate Rosi, who did not smoke at all herself, felt my stress levels were way beyond normal and brought one around to me in our Beddington Home..I remember feeling a bit drunk and slurred:catapult: soon after, so either it was strong or I am just not able to cope with anything toxic....cool man...

I was a smoker (10 a day, menthol) until I was diagnosed with Cancer in 1986, quit that day. I have never tried it and I can't stand the smell.

@CanadianLori may be able to give a more definitive answer. She's a licensed grower. :blue thumb:
