I've seen at least 6 Kestrels around the edge of our village. We call this young one 'the very friendly Kestrel' as we can often get quite close to it

Redwings, another 'first' seen during our local Lockdown walks

I have only seen a few Redwings and , always very nervous flying off immediately they see you.
            Just one Fieldfare this Winter.
A pair of Coal tits are very regular but not always together.

I'm a bit worried for what is not flying round here; I've not seen any wrens since Christmas. I think this cold spell is taking its toll.

The birds are there @WoolyBack but being so cold they are probably sheltering to help maintain body heat.

Only seen Redwings twice here, in flocks of about 30 and really struggled to get close enough for a photo until Tuesday, and that was taken from quite some distance, about 100 yards away.

Numerous groups of Fieldfares about, normally in flocks of up to a dozen, but today there was a flock of about 40 and I managed to catch up with a few stragglers

                  Fieldfare 2021A.jpg

Then I saw a flock of about a dozen Stonechats

                  stonechat2021D.jpg

Skylarks are starting to increase at their local nesting site

P.S. All seen/photographed whilst out on our normal dog walk within a mile of home.

That's our village church on the left behind the Meadow Pippit

Long Tailed Tits, infrequent visitors to the garden but always busy when they arrive.

Soil is dry and light enough for the Sparrows to start having dust baths!!

We don't seem to be getting as many small birds as usual in the garden but I do see a number of them flitting onto and off the bird feeders. They aren't staying on them as long as normal. Usually they would stay on a perch and eat a few seeds before flying. Now they seem to quickly grab one seed and go.

Plenty of larger birds around. More magpies than usual, a normal amount of pigeons and doves and just the one pheasant. They all pick up what the smaller birds knock out of the feeders.

Golden Plovers have been moving around due to the cold weather and 20 turned up in a field a mile away, very rare around here and only seen in Winter.

A rare treat to see a Red Throated Diver on the River Frome in Wareham today, very few over winter around here. Unfortunately they don't look anything like as colourful as they do in Summer up in the Scottish Highlands and islands where they breed.

The pair of blackbirds are now spending quite a bit of time flitting backwards and forwards to where the old nest was in the ivy outside my office window. They don't seem to be bringing any material to do any renovation works on the old nest.

This morning there were seven robins on the patio and in the bed by the patio. One wren popping across the patio and going into a hanging basket. They're all moving too fast for me to get a good photo.
