Well now my migraine is almost gone I've had a bit of a go with painting again. This is Lincoln castle. I know it needs much improvement on perspective but was a good experiment with techniques and The derwent pencils/Gouache and watercolours. Used the rubbish watercolour paper as was just a practice.

Snorky, pleased you are more your ole self ... your creativity has really come out in many aspects since the stay at home orders. Just a little depth added will make the painting very nice indeed.

I have never fancied water colours but do have Gouache chalks which I have never touched.

I plan on doing a lampshade with Acrylics in the not-too-distant future ... will obviously "show and tell" when I do.

Lock-down project using old cheap 18mm plywood
Initial plan was two small planters, then shaped the tops and decided on these
Roped Mrs C in to fix the vinyl transfers

Oh @Cordy they are sooo cute!!! I want one for me! :heehee: How long did they take to make?

Thanks @Victoria . When you say to add depth can you tell me what you would do to add the depth? This is why i wish I could go to an art class for a teacher to show me how etc.

please let me know how you get on with the lamp shade. I have a pair of expensive Floor lamps that had paper type shades whoch will be impossible to replace, but the shades have faded and don't go with our new house decor. Would love to see how you do it x

To be honest, I don't know how/if you can with the medium you are using ... but you can try! I am moving it down so I can look and type. You need to darken your shadows as shadows always add depth. Make the trees on the right taller and not so even on the top. Put tufts of grass and small brown/grey blobs in the grass to to make it less flat.

I get art programmes on the TV ... see what is available to you.

I am thinking of purple/green/silver for my shades, maybe along the lines of this I did for a friend done with a J-Cloth like rag rolling in reds/pinks/gold ..

@Snorky Your card is SO cute!

I had a thought. Next time you are near the Pound Shop or whatever cheapie shop you have, buy a box of Acrylics ... usually 1-2 Euros here. Perhaps also a small stretched canvas. Then have a try with it. You can use brushes, palette knives or J-Cloths to get all kinds of effects. You can use it as thin or thick as you like. You can go over and over it time after time. (I have paintings over other paintings.) I have coloured cloth shoes and tie-dyed Jeans with it as it is permanent when dry.

Using Acrylic Paint and a bit of Bling. I had a Sun Visor someone gave me which was not to my liking, ie, the beak was in black and white gingham! So I painted it with Acrylic black and took several coats to hide it. Then I took a bit of black bling and stuck it around the edge.

                        Beak.jpg

I have just got a brown one in the post so will trim it with something blingy. I have some small gold leaves braid ... we'll see.

Ooh that's a good idea Victoria. I've gone one gold acrylic paint but I will get some to use properly. I can see how it would work well on a lamp shade!

I've just been rooting through stuff my grandma has given me of my grandads and found this...

                          8F6726EF-A2A3-46EF-9015-AEBD227479AE.jpeg

...3 real hair/sable brushes and a Reeves 18 watercolour pan set. I've just cleaned it up as it was a mess and the colours are still beautiful. Must be a sign from grandad above.

slightly off topic but in my little room upstairs I've made it into my hobby/art room. When we first moved here I said it smelt of my grandad. Its a weird smell like stale cigarettes...only comes and goes (my grandad used to smoke up in his little room). We always say if the smell appears it is grandad with us. I used to randomly smell it in my old house too. Anyway....I think finding the paints is a sign I need to keep going at it :)

Your Grandad is definitely watching over you. I knew someone who always smelt violets when they were near were an Aunt was. I believe in such .... we are currently watching Supernatural an episode a night. I have experienced several unexplainable things in my life.
