WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

Yeah its one of passionflowers that likes cool conditions.
I think it comes from fairly high altitude.

Good to hear that you have salvaged some of the cuttings.
I think the Plectrathus will prefer a shady spot.

 

Now that the weather has improved I’ve been back outside working.
This is where years ago I had a greenhouse.

The slabs are what was the flooring in the greenhouse.
The area to the left of the slabs (not really visible) is where I grow my tomatoes. The area to the right is wasted space and could be better utilised so I’ve done some thing about it.

Chippings removed and the soil dug over, weeds removed.


Bought some decking boards and using my mediocre carpentry have tuned them into this.



And in its final resting place.



Tomorrow I shall line the planter and protect the base of the boards. Then fill it with earth. Now got a useable growing space approx 3m x 1m. Probably uses it this year for extra runner beans and see how it goes.

 

Great job there @Ashleyc It feels so satisfying to get a job like that done.
@Victoria I grew some of those cerinthe last year from seed-they started off fantastic and then I planted cosmos with them which ended up totally swamping them. You've reminded me to have another go at them this year.

They look lovely ferns @ARMANDII Which ebay seller did you buy them from?

 

I think some of my new ones are dodgy looking too, but I will wait a few days before cutting them back , it may just be the exposed bits that have perished..optimistic I know but the root system is OK.

Last years ones are doing OK, some have even got their buds forming....it's just the wee babies that are poorly.

Been at work today looking out the window at a glorious day. Came home grabbed a cuppa and off down the shed for some seed sowing. Sown Penstemon Scarlet Queen, Shansta Daisey, Turnip Snowball and Purple Milan Top and Kohlrabi. Pricked out Spinach I had sown a couple of weeks ago.
Very satisfying.

Its not been to bad of a day . Popped round to my mum and sorted some steps out , pointing tomorrow .

Back home and had a look round the garden seen as the snow melted , got my secateurs out and set into some clematis and other various perennials that I hadn't cut back yet . Attacked the honeysuckle that ventured up the apple tree and pruned some small bits of the apple tree as well , I'll do some more pruning on the apple tree tomorrow while I am pruning the wisteria and get the hedge trimmer out for the rest of the honeysuckle. Got one of the lawnmowers out and shredded the last cutting of the season for the compost bin, think I'll try and turn one tomorrow .

It felt somewhat like spring today birds chirping away, fairly mild being out in the garden which has seemed for to long ago and a bit of hope the year going to get better

 

I remember this from a biology lesson at school quite frequently. .....a long long time ago .

Mine are worse than that, all the ones that have been planted have been affected, got some that i hadn't planted out because they were too small, they're alright.

@ARMANDII thanks for the ebay info. A good find there! They also combine postage to reduce cost which is good. Might be making some purchases later
