Just planted some seeds indoors ...

    Datura, Purple Queen Double
    [IMG]

    Datura, Golden Queen Frilled Double
    [IMG]

    Hibiscus mutabilis (Confederate Rose)

    Hibiscus moscheutos

Some of the seeds were a few years old so I don't hold out a lot of hope but :fingers crossed:

Just got some cuttings of Hardenbergia violacea from Tasmania but they don't look very fresh, even so have potted them up and will hope for the best.

Had one years ago but was not very successful. There is a house near here that has one over a chain link fence and it is excellent.

@Sian in Belgium I am going to disagree with Armadii regarding the woodchip , Raw woodchip doesn't hold any nutrient value until its rotted down more so I can't burn a plant like fresh manure can , it reckoned ( don't believe it proven yet ) to do the opposite of robbing the soil of nitrogen in the breaking down process . And the other key thing you said was mulch as long as you're not stacking the woodchip high its not going to generate enough heat to damage anything . I get a lot of woodchip every year and throw it around here there and everywhere around the apple tree - paths and today on the raspberries which I get on to in a minute :) , one of the raspberry canes were under a foot of woodchip ( its near the woodchipper ) its fine just had a nice warm cosy cushioning over winter its slightly advanced than the other canes.

I’m feeling very pleased with myself today.

A few weeks ago I coppiced one of my hazel stools, giving me a pile of canes / branches / whips .... not sure what to call them.
Today I cut three of the thicker stems to make stakes. I drove them into the ground, spaced around a metre apart. I cut the thinner whippy stems from the main stems, and wove them in and out of the stakes, making a sort of hurdle screen to block the gap in the hedge, as people were peering through into the garden. 0D555663-35BE-47BD-B5F0-948125623564.jpeg
You can see a full-height transit parked in the street...

I also got a pile of beanpoles.

Another proactive afternoon was expecting it to rain but for a bit of drizzle it been fine.

Today I've been moving the raspberries from the back of the garage/shed in the garden to the side of the garage on the garage site :rolleyespink: , took a bit of digging out and more sorting out the site where they are going , chopped up some some logs for next door and binned more rubbish from the new raspberry site . It took me a while to get things how I wanted them but got there in the end and top off with a woodchip / conifer mulch , raspberry like a acidic soil so the conifer ideal .

              DSC_0465.JPG

Only problem is the garage roof doesn't have a gutter on it so will run off onto the raspberries , not ideal for them but if they snuff it they snuff it :noidea: . This reminds me I need to cut more of the stems back to the base.

After planting the raspberries I potted up the rest must of had 15 ish plants give some to next door and mum wants some , it more bloody pots to add to the rest of the hoards of pots I've got laying around the garden . If anyone want so bare root raspberry just ask .

Tidied up my strawberry plants as well just need to give them a fresh topping of compost and feed later on into March .

I think he was saying because it stays damp mushrooms can grow on it...We have a lot of chippings as our heating is partly by wood..we use it in lots of areas including the barn where it rots down eventually to good compost..not tested it though, just looks good...

Pricked out the chilli seedlings.4 very hot varieties and sweet pepper, 8 of each.

A lot of the wallflowers recovered but some didn't. I thought that i lost all of them, so i will do them this year.

You could put up plastic guttering as this is lightweight and a fairly simple job....We have one area with no guttering and it pounds down the soil and nothing lives there... poor raspberries..:mute:

Also if you were to fit a down pipe a water butt could be fitted to collect the rain water .:)

Today in the Garden I spent two long hours digging out turfs:catapult: and adding it all to the 'new' place:whistle: for the Greenhouse..getting level and have placed the paving in situ. looks good from afar...:)

The Contractor that wanted to trim my back fence arrived yesterday, a little late, and was a really nice guy. I showed him the job and he seemed undaunted and very confident about how the job should be done, so he's got the job.
I took him on a tour of the garden and he liked it, and liked it enough to ask if he could do any maintenance of it in the coming year as extra business. We had a general chat about plants etc and after awhile I decided that he didn't know that I knew that he didn't know enough about gardening to know that he didn't know enough about gardening.........if you get my meaning:dunno:
He has other clients on one off jobs and wanted to know about how to prune this and that but really didn't know what Hardy Perennial/ Clematis/Lilac, etc looked like:doh: So, we decided to leave that subject for a while,:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
