Things you dont use anymore.

The problem with a lot of chemicals is "unintended consequences" among some of which spring to mind are: DDT (Silent Spring), Ivermectin a treatment for gut parasites has had major consequences for dung beetles around the world, Diclofenac indiscriminate use of this pain killer/antiinflammatory in life stock has almost caused the extinction of vultures in parts of the world, Organotin anti fouling paints for ships.
Two contributions from the same chemist: Lead Tetraethyl as an antiknock additive and and later CFC refrigerants (ozone holes)

 

I once had a plant die and I suspected it was because someone dumped their martini in it - the toothpick and olive being the indicator. Maybe we need to ban martinis too

Most things, if used properly and in proper proportion are safe.

I finally decided to get rid of some more electronics that are good for only one application because they don't have enough memory to use newer OS. My other devices take care of pretty much everything so these single function things need to go.

And my old fan/leaf rake - really - what am I thinking! It is missing tines and is not efficient.

 

But surely all chemicals have a side effect, just like all drugs do.
But we need to restrict use, where appropriate, and weigh up whether advantages out weigh the consequences.
I know for a fact, since they made timber treatment pretty much non toxic it became as good as useless in doing what it was intended for.

 

An old teacher of mine once told me:

"There's never the time to do it right - but curiously there's always time to do it all over"

 

I once worked in a place that followed that principle.
They closed down.

Quite! Despite the doom-mongers and the very occasional and selective use of effective chemicals, what was a typical over-farmed French field is now clothed in trees, shrubs and perennials, and absolutely swarming with insects (and other wildlife) of all kinds.

 

The centre was always in the ones I bought.

In fact when was the last time you saw a Juke box in a pub? (Ignoring the fact when was the last time you saw the inside of a pub!)

 

Yeah but the record player always came with an adapter to fit over the spindle.

 

Yeah you couldn't stack them if you were using the adapter, just a plastic thing, round, with a hole in the middle.
