Well, when you look at what is going on it is about slowing the amount of people ending up in hospital.
The vaccine is part of the process and without it we would be in the same situation as other parts of Europe, but bear in mind getting covid is in some ways very similar to having the vaccine, it gives you some immunity.
So all those young people, who are yet to be vaccinated, and are out there and likely to get infected, and get over it, the more people there will be out there with some kind of immunity.

Bearing in mind, this is not going to go away any time in the next few years, getting people with immunity out there is the only way it's ever going to be possible to actually live with this.

Exposure to the virus will be the only way we get out of it, lockdowns only slow the infection so as to allow the NHS to keep up with demand.

How is the 2nd Covid jab booked? I booked my vaccinations through the NHS online system after receiving the letter. My number 2 jab is on the 22nd of this month.:dbgrtmb: MrsH and most others we know, were contacted by their GPs and had jab 1 at the local centre. The 2nd jab was not booked at this time. Now we have heard that possibly the GP surgery's are not organising the second jab, but it is being organised through the "GP Alliance", presume every area has one of these? I have never heard of it and can't see anything on Google about it. Does anyone know?

Yes I found the GP alliance site, but no mention of booking for Covid jab2.

Things are working a bit differently here in Scotland @HarryS, but I was contacted by my doctors surgery for the first jab and told the same would happen for the second. Perhaps that's how it will work for you.

Cant you call your GP surgery and ask?

I'd not go by anything "you have heard", lots of people spreading all kinds of stuff these days, mostly rubbish.

I agree, we will wait and see what happens. As the 2nd jab is now the main focus for the vaccination programme, the booking system should become known in a week or two.

From our local GP Surgery website:

I think it varies from practice to practise, and most GP surgeries have outsourced the vaccinations. What little I know from my cousins, most have booked their 2nd jab by calling the NHS.

Clicking through to the Surrey Heartlands website, I found this graphic which is probably representative of progress elsewhere in England. It shows right now that 2nd doses are mainly being given to the 80+ age group:

Over 65's are now the main group receiving 2nd jab locally (GP run rural centre), and at the rate they're getting through them it'll be over 60's after Easter.
