    Shiney posted the same, but back when it all started

    How can some one test positive if no sample was taken, question should have to be asked, and with all what was filmed by BBC panorama about what was going on in the testing labs, sounds like lots of corners are being cut

      @shiney

      I wonder if Mrs Shiney had an anti-gen test? I had an anti-body test in the summer it involved a visit to the surgery and blood being taken, which at the time was the only way. Could be wrong but the finger-prick kits for home testing are a recent thing?

      NB: The forum is substituting 'thorn' instead of p r i c k ! Not a rude word in this context.

        @JWK No blood test. It was in the early months of the pandemic and a research project with the University, NHS and Office of National Statistics. She was invited to take the test - down the throat and up the nose job to be done one hour before the time they said they would pick it up. They picked it up exactly on time. All that part seemed well organised. It fell apart after that. :noidea:

        As she had seen two people afterwards we notified them and also told them we thought the result couldn't be correct. One of the people was where she went for an NHS sight test.

          Sounds more like the anti-gen test which indicates if you have the virus there and then, my son and a nephew took part in that same study with the ONS.

          The anti-gen test is to indicate if you have had the virus in the past. I think this is what is confusing @joolz68 :what:

            Yes, they said it was to test if you had the virus at that time.

              Antigen tests are different to antibody tests.
              But I must admit with all these vaccination going on, some kind of testing to see if the population is actually getting a good antibody response would be useful.

                  This business about whether the 1st or 2nd jab is worse. Saw a video about this last night, where the brainiac explained:

                  - the second jab has the worst side effects - it's all to do with your immune response;
                  - if you have already had Covid19 - it is likely that you will find the 1st jab worse - because your immune system has already responded to the virus - your 1st jab is equivalent to the 2nd jab.

                    All my friends that have had the second jab (lots of them) have had less, or no, side effects than with the first. I had none both times. :fingers crossed:

                      I was told that the first dose of Astra Zeneca is worse than the second and the second dose of Pfizer is worse than the first. :dunno:

                        None of my family or friends have suffered any side effects with the second jab from either AZ or Pfizer.

                          I would say that most of these, varied, reports are apochryphal. :noidea:

                            Everyone's immune system is different so everybody will react differently to the challenge presented by the vaccine; throw in different vaccines each of which interacts in a different way with the immune system and it becomes impossible to predict how any one person will respond to the first vaccine or the second.

                                Finding from a recent US study on the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines:

                                In those who had an mRNA vaccine - such as the Pfizer or Moderna jab - they estimate CVSTs occurred in around four in a million people.

                                Hmm, interesting. For the AZ vaccine the rate is one in a million people. So by my reckoning, the risks of developing CVST's are 3 times higher for the Pfizer and Moderna jabs.

                                Mind you, I'm no scientist - so what do I know...
