Covid is more infectious. Social distancing, hand washing, masks etc 'slow' down the spread but are not enough in themselves to 'stop' it. Look at the consequences in India when they allowed mass gatherings.

So this makes you wonder, if there should be an outbreak of flu at some time in the future will we end up having restrictions brought in to tackle it .
Is this going to be come the normal way of stopping outbreaks of any kind of virus in the future.

Another interesting factoid - the news is just getting better - we're turning the corner. Or, as JVT would say - the train is full and accelerating down the track:

Data from Public Health England (PHE)’s real-world study shows the vaccines are already having a significant impact in the UK, reducing hospitalisations and saving more than 10,000 lives in England alone by the end of March.

From having near to nothing cases for weeks now, Algarve registered 61 cases yesterday. It is an outbreak at a farm near Albufeira which produces cucumbers, tomatoes and courgettes. There are about 80 workers, mainly from India and Nepal :yikes: but all here legally. The Health Department is keeping close wraps on this.

Yes I read this yesterday, we may giggle but it's sad how many beliefs can lead to false security hopes and lead people into more deeper danger.

I was careful to poke fun at the comments of the doctors criticising the practice, not those desperate enough to try it.

Here in Redditch they've found the south African variant. It's not the district where i live and they've found which one it is. But instead of going round door to door and taking a test kit and tell them they have to do a test, they're going to leave it to those people to do it themselves, people won't do it because the implications that it will make.

Yes we had cases nearby too in February, but they did go round the immediate area door knocking and leaving test kits:dbgrtmb:

You know, I just dont see how they are going to keep on top of these new variants, we do seem to be running in order to stand still at the moment.

Because they can't be bothered to do anything and they don't know if these vaccines will control them. But they are making new ones but won't be available for a long time.

Send the surplus to India - don't throw it away - when will the EU get over Brexit..

France has had a low uptake of the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine, which is creating stockpiles of the drug.

From Wednesday, anyone under 50 can book an appointment to take the unused vaccines, but this won't help the AZ problems as in France anyone under 55 is not approved for the drug.

Despite not having approval, the French Health Ministry has said that AstraZeneca may be offered to under 55s if the alternative is throwing it in the bin.
