This is so sad. The world needs to turn its attention to what is happening - if it's not controlled every where - it will get back to the UK as a variant we can't fight off with current vaccines.

I don't think it's fair at all to say 'they can't be bothered ' as a tremendous amount of research is going on behind the scenes to learn all they can about the potential dangers of new variants, which is advantageous to all...here and on a global scale.

We all have to play our part and do as we are instructed and it's very sad that some people have big issues with that!!

If a test kit is dropped off it should use and returned to wherever instructed without even a hint of debate. That's how I see it, we all carry a huge responsibility .

Yeah the cat is out the bag.

It was all the usual waffle about putting India on the red list a few weeks back.
And then the usual 2or3 days notice before imposing the ban, during which time hundreds of people rush to get in before.

But I suppose if the vaccine still works there should be less deaths than otherwise so no real reason to shut everything down.

I went up to the surgery a short while ago to put a prescription in the prescription letter box. As I walking away one of the nurses popped out through the door and asked me if I had a jab yet. I said 'yes' and then asked 'why, have some going spare?' and she said yes. Then said that if I know anyone in the village that wants one they should get in touch.

My Mrs was at an NHS staff meeting this morning regarding the Indian variant. She texted me to remind me to collect my medication from the pharmacy and to rearrange my second jab, they have brought forward the second jab from 12 weeks to 8 weeks.

There will be even more in the next few weeks now the Champions league football final has been switched to Porto. The FA and BJ were pushing for the final to be played at Wembley with both finalists being English clubs, would of made sense.

Utter madness....apart from essential and business travel I think we should all stay put within our own country borders for a year.
It's a very sad state of affairs if people choose foreign holidays over trying to eradicate Covid from the world.

I'm in two minds about foreign travel, as we don't travel much it isn't a hardship for us to stay at home. But having retired recently there are a few places we planned to visit and would like to travel whilst still able. A year is no big deal for us.

On the other hand I'm thinking about all those people employed in the travel industry who are out of work or on 80% furlough pay. Also, for many a foreign holiday is good for their well being. I'd rather those people still went abroad rather than doing 'staycations'. We have already found difficulty booking holiday cottages and seaside hotels this summer, which is our normal thing. Sadly we are being taken advantage of as many UK destinations are drastically increasing their prices beyond our means.

The current vaccines are effective against the variant that was first identified in India - so the 21st break out is looking likely:

The UK has "increasing confidence" that Covid-19 vaccines work against the Indian variant of the virus, the health secretary has said.

Matt Hancock said early lab data showed vaccines remained effective.

Also heard that someone 'frail' had passed on with Covid - even though both jabs had been given - so we can't afford to let our guard slip just yet.

Err, you mean two years, have you forgotten last year;)
Who would have thought 1 year ago we would still be in this mess, it was all going to be over by the summer, and then Christmas and then............ its starting to sound like second world war films I've seen.
I'm not bothered about foreign travel, but it does get a lot of people out of my way in the summer months, the place is just going to be too crowded if we dont get rid of that lot for the summer.

I tend to see it all slipping away again, they are getting us ready for another move of the goal posts.
