Where do you sell your own grown on excess plants?

Hi There,

I like propagating plants and hate to just throw away extra plants. So i enjoy growing them on for a year or so till they look strong. Now I'd like to sell some of them - where you you recommend selling then?

Any packaging hints, I've save previous packaging from the main outlets i buy from.

Oh its plants like - Clerodendrum Bungei, Yucca gloriosa/Spanish Dagger, Black bamboo etc,

Never had to sell any.....I can always find room!! I have occasionally given some away.

 

There is somebody local who always puts some potted Dahlias out the fron of his house with a for sale sign, not really sure how many he sells.

Personally I do have plants that build up on me and I need to get rid of, but never enough to make it worth while, and its usually quite a mix of stuff.

I try to unload a few if I should get a visitor, but that is not very often.

 

I sell daylily aka hemerocallis on ebay ... but I do have some rare American variety's which sell really well as no nursery sells them in the UK .. makes me shocked when occasionally they go over £30.00 each. All you need is two buyers as I only put one of each variety on once a year and it goes crazy ...a lot of my buyers are repeat customers as I send a quality plant out ....

So it depends what you have to sell and if you think anyone would pay for it ? and a good photo works wonders

Wouldn't know as I definitely do not have excess plants! I just have far too small a garden!

As others have said Freecycle, Nextdoor, car boot sales, signs in the garden. I find some people are put off if the plant doesn't have an "English" name, latin name means it must be difficult to grow or some such thing.
A year or so ago there was a bit of a todo with Brexit and plant passports and it appeared you would need to be registered and attach a plant passport label to any plant or plant material sent through the post or sold to someone who was going to sell them on. Seems to have died down now and I don't know what the current situation is.

 

I advertise any of mine on the village FaceBook and put them out at the bottom of our drive.
Folk in the village are pretty good at sharing plants FOC and we've got a redundant phone box that gets used for sharing plants and other stuff too.

 

We have a nice thing going on at work where every now and then someone brings some plants in a big box and everyone grabs what they want. Got a few Paprika and Habanero plants that way. And once my garden had two or three years to grow I can hopefully provide something else.

 

Virtual Plants Shiney. I think you are on to something, sell them with Non Fungible Tokens ... you'll make a fortune ...
