I've been fighting to get rid of this plant for a couple of years now - it's come back every year and so has now earned it's place in the garden. Anyone know what it is called - is it some kind of fancy grass? It's planted on the edge of the patio area - so I'm looking for some more to balance up the look. Ta.
Pendulous Sedge Carex pendula | pendulous sedge/RHS Gardening It can increase in size, is difficult to dig out and can self seed everywhere. It will do that all by itself.
To be fair it's a nice looking grass but as Scrungee says,It will seed everywhere, even in your lawn,if you're not partial to it I'd get rid..saying that I've been trying for years.
Pendulous sedge - I have come around to quite liking it. It is the only plant in the garden with spikey leaves - who doesn't like spikey....
I had one appear on a grassy area at my plot, it grew bigger and bigger and when I tried to reduce it in size by digging some out around the perimeter, I first tried a spade [1] then an axe and a mattock, failed so built a huge bonfire on top of it as that was the only way of getting rid of it. [1] Wonder where that spade got to
This is one of those things that even the snails won't touch. I like the death by bonfire route, but knowing this plant as I do, it'll do a protea and actually enjoy the extra warmth!
Probably would help Phil, but then I'm a great fan of weedkillers. Glyphosate if I want rid of permanently or pelargonic acid if I just want the area to look tidy quickly. I won't be throwing a load of petrol on anything to get rid of it....
