Covid: WHO renames UK and other variants with Greek letters

The Kent variant will now be known as the Κεντ variant, the Indian variant as Ινδός, etc., etc.

 

Well at least that's got that sorted.

 

I had my 2 dose card laminated and it sits in my purse with my other cards...

 

And now the next Covid gremlin is rearing its ugly head:

Its all Greek to me.

 

Notice there's no mention of the 'Yorkshire variant' .They wouldn't bloody dare.

 

The one to watch out for is the Ω variant.

I have to agree with Professor Bell:

A leading Covid vaccines expert has said that if the UK “scampers down the rabbit hole” every time a new variant emerges the nation will be “huddled away” for a long time.

It's time to fling open the doors.

 

Well only certain doors, a free for all regarding international travel still needs to be put on hold.

 

Hmmm. It looks like there may well be hope on the horizon - Covid 19 could be eradicated in the next few years.

Apparently boffins have been looking at how long people keep their immunity - there is some data which suggests that after the jabs we will be immune for years rather than months. One study showed that some people were able to mount an immune response after 17 years. Yes, 17 years - and this was against a virus very similar to Covid-19.

Interesting stuff - the cells that generate anti bodies set up home in your bone marrow and stay there until they are needed again.

Mind you, the people who did this research are scientists - so what do they know...

 

Well all the old kids viruses we used to get like measles, chickenpox etc. were most one off things.

 

Just goes to show how boring we Canucks are. We just import variants as we can't create our own variant..

 

21st looks still to be on - the vaccines are doing their job:

The number of people in hospital with the Covid variant now known as Delta is rising but not "very significantly," the boss of NHS Providers has said.

Many of those in hospital in Bolton - the area worst hit by the variant - were younger, with "very few" fully vaccinated patients.

This appears to show that vaccines have "broken the chain" between infection and serious illness.
