Its arrived a bit earlier than some were expecting, but as W10 will not be retired, eg no security updates, until after 2025, then might be a good time to see what W11 is like after most of its bugs have been removed.

Sounds like its becoming much more integratable with other devices like mobile phones and gaming machines, good if thats your thing ?

The down side is that budget laptops and old desktops with small memory and drives will not be able to run it, and they are not always easy to upgrade their hardware- see screenshot below.

If you are just a typical surfer, doing the usual Office letters etc then you might want to consider trying Linux operating system - all free !
Linux used to be one or the geeks, but today many Linux versions are more suited to the average pc user, being a lot more user friendly,

We have just loaded up Linux Mint and for day to day tasks it very easy to use and not so different in apperance to windows. It comes already loaded with all the basic programs you need to get going like Firefox, Libre Office and many other free useful progams.

You can try it out on your system without affecting windows by running it from a USB stick or Driver or CD/DVD, though a little slower that way.
The are other ways you can run it within or alongside windows if you want to have both.
Worth a look .... ? Main Page - Linux Mint

I'm still using windows 7 or is it 8, cant remember, its the one before 10.
I know its not 9, because that would be too easy.;)

It still works for me, so why change until they force you to?

That's easy. Because of the increased security. A lot of companies learned that the hard way. Sticking with what you know might be convenient, but it also means that exploits, once they are known, are never gonna get fixed and mean "open access for everyone". There are lots of scammers and extortionists out there looking for unsecured networks and old systems. Best case would be you losing your data. Worst case would be someone else getting access to your online banking or credit card numbers.

So I strongly suggest to upgrade the system before the update service ends. Especially with the operating system and anti virus software

Interesting factoid - there are colours of Linux that have front ends which mimic how Windows looks and feels - so if you fancy a go at Linux but are hooked on the Windows look and feel - there is a version out there for you - and it's free - as is the software that runs on it.

Stuck of Microsoft Office? Have loads of Office files? There is a free Linux version - which IMHO is just as good as Office and handles all the original file formats.

I stopped lining the pockets of Bill Gates some years ago - I think he's got enough money.

Its not just a Linux program , it works on Windows 7 -10 !
100% recommend - all free for home users -
Home | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft

Just that MS virtually give away MS Office to their big accounts who then specify that MS office is a must for their users / students etc. Was given a free Office 2007 product code by a friend who worked for a large institution where some employees got 3 free Office product codes each after their employer signed a deal with MS for Windows; expect the similar things still happen today.

Getting back to the W11 subject , seems it not going to be a straight forwards upgrade and think MS may have shot themselves in the foot here.

For those interested look as this link and try out the MS PC Health Check program which may, like ours shows that we cannot run W11, and though we have a socket for TPM on our oldish motherboard gettting a suitable matching TPM 2.0 module might not be possible ??

Also you can see from this link Microsofts answer if you PC does is not compatible - buy new hardware if you want W11 !!!!
No idea what will happen to all those users and older machines using W7.

Users on older machines running Windows 7 can still use Windows 10. It's a huge upgrade and won't be shut down for another 5 years or so. So no need to get worked up on Win 11 right now.

Although I am all for new technology, that doesn't mean I would switch on the first chance I get. Let them work out the kinks for a year or two and after that you can still make up your mind wether you want to change or sit back for another few years. But as support is shutting down, that's the last call you definitely should heed.

Sounds like its just microsoft's way of making most of our stuff obsolete.

Then we will all have to go out and buy new PCs within 5 yrs whether they still work or not.
