That's the ticket Snorky, vicious attack of the shrubbery! I've decided that I'll be hacking right into the body through the big branches rather than just tickle around. It will look shocking for a bit but should come back OK

Everything is dripping after some lovely overnight rain…

But I have managed to move a big ?male fern that was blocking the footpath around the house. I hope the moist conditions will help it to settle into its new home well.

I’ve also been working on the drive bed. I had allowed the lychnis to dominate it, as the other plants got established, as a way of stabilising the soil. Now that the other plants are growing well, I seem to weed out a trug-full of the plants each time I look closely at the bank! Strangely, it’s one of those plants that seems to look better when it’s not growing en-mass…

Even after the weekend rain, the ground was still bone dry. So i gave it two good soakings today…….hopefully the grass will grow a bit more and can be ready for its first cut on the weekend.

Thanks @Upsydaisy yes it's a uti and I feel better today, but still taking it easy. But as you know that's very difficult to do.
I can't remember if you did tell me but I did read up about it and a probiotic helps.

Just did a bit of watering this evening.

Lovely day yesterday. Supposed to have been making cheese boards but abandoned that idea in favour of a day in the garden. Spent around 4 hours actual garden time, so got quite a bit done.I

Finished tweaking the planting in the border I mentioned before. Chopped off a few pieces of the Willow tree to let a bit of light into the area underneath it and gave it to the buns to munch on. Cut grass in side garden. Started sanding the patio raised bed prior to painting and discovered bits of it are rotten. Should have stuck with my original idea of dismantling it. Just going to paint it now and sort it out later in year or next. Pulled out lots of oxygenation weed from the pond to thin it out a bit and topped up pond.

Had another go in the old bun run and removed the gate and wire fencing either side ( there was a battle :paladin:, which I won :loll:). I'm going to remove the wire fencing on the side closest to the conservatory but leave the other 2 sides as the hedging grows over those 2. Still haven't decided what I want to do in there. It looks so much bigger now and the whole side garden feels bigger and more spacious. Was going to take pics today, but :rain: all day and a little chilly.

Nice morning yesterday, sunny and warm. Decided to start pruning the Hawthornes in the front garden. They are close to the conservatory and have grown so tall and big that they scrape against the conservatory roof when it's windy. The gap between the conservatory and the trees is just the width of a paving slabs path and the step ladder is wider, so it leans at an angle. So, I'm balanced on a ladder that keeps trying to topple over and cutting with a blunt pruning. Couldn't reach all of the bits I need to prune but have cut back bits likely to damage the conservatory. Discovered the Russian vine I thought was dead is alive and well and scrambling happily through the Hawthorne:). I also pruned a couple of cherry trees. I did have plans for more gardening in the afternoon, but weather changed ( within half an hour ) and clouded right over followed by :rain:.

Did a lot of deadheading and cutting back/ staking of tall plants that were either broken or well and truly hammered by the recent heavy rains.
Very pleased to see that all the Dahlias that I thought were lost are all budding up nicely .....it won't be long now.!:hapydancsmil:

Picked some strawberries and the first few blueberries, getting there first before the birds!!

Racing to put down more soil with grass seed mixed in. I had run out of soil and seed the other day and now have both. And it is supposed to start raining later and probably at least once a day for the next 4. Perfect timing.

I have two appointments today and will try to fit in stopping at a garden center to see what's left and marked down - yesterday I got a cherry tomato plant for nothing. I picked it up, went to the cash to pay and the lady said if that's all you've got, just take it :)

After the late snow earlier this year wrecked the old fruit cage I've build a smaller one. The rest of the space is now becoming an outdoor shaded 'lounge' area for those too hot and sunny evenings when you just want a cool shady spot.
So I'm prepping the soil to put weed fabric and relay the paving slabs.
There is still a small cherry tree to move to get the full space but that needs to wait till winter.
