A man has apologised after footage emerged showing England's chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, being accosted in a park.

The video shows two men laughing and jeering as they grab hold of Prof Whitty, who struggles to free himself.

The pair had been on an anti-vax march in London when they spotted Prof Whitty.

I don't think any more needs to be said...

@clanless Not the worst example of harassment, but watching that footage was still horrible. I hate it when intimidation is veiled in playfulness, there's something particularly cowardly and repulsive about it!

        You have to ask.
Would either of them done this if they were on their own, and without someone to video it.
I'm not sure if if the person who vedeoed it was part of it or not.

I think it was done in a 'selfie' fashion. Terrible behaviour, but to be honest I've been seeing that sort of thing with lagered up lads for years - it was commonplace when I was driving buses. I used to hate travelling back to the garage on another bus on Friday and Saturday evenings for this very reason. I don't think they meant any harm, but they did not think at all about their behaviour and I think it is just a further step in the degradation that we have seen in respect and manners.

It never ceases to amaze me that we are being berated about saying the wrong thing when we call someone he or she etc, yet this sort of behaviour is commonplace.

At last :yay: - people taking responsibility for their own actions:

England will move into a period without legal restrictions where the public will have to exercise "personal responsibility" including on face masks, the housing secretary has said.

I see that Northern Ireland young people are receiving the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine - appears to be a solid strategy to get as many young people vaccinated in the quickest possible time. The rest of the UK need to have a look at what's happening and copy NI.

I thought anyone over 18 could get a vaccine now anyway.

True - the difference is that the others require 2 doses 8 weeks apart - before you get full protection. J&J means full protection far sooner. Mind you the J&J jab has the risk of blood clots, the Pfizer and Moderna only risk heart inflammation.

At a news conference at 17:00 BST, Boris Johnson will say how and when the final step of the government's roadmap plan for easing coronavirus restrictions in England will happen.

I'm sorry Boris - most people are already ignoring your restrictions - have you seen the latest number of infections?

Well I thought it was next Monday has it been brought forward.

You only have to watch the football and you can see nobody is taking notice of the so called restrictions.

He has to abandon the restrictions before events over take him and he starts looking really stupid.

You can't hold events like the football and Wimbledon and at the same time tell the rest of the country you have to stay 2metres apart and keep wearing masks.
He's looking like a complete idiot now.

I sympathise with Boris to a certain extent. His ears are being bashed by scientists, doctors, politicians, the public and the media. That is excluding his own thoughts on what decision to make for the best. He's damned whatever choice he makes by one or any of them. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes and there's not many that would.

Herself has booked the ferry for a trip to Blighty in early August.
Something to do with babies ...

Her main role is keeping me out of trouble, ...... so I may be a bit out of practice.

My chief fear is that Boris Island will likely be warming up for the virus throughout August, due to impecunious risks being so necessary to the economy, and she may find herself locked-down in her admittedly Sylvan surroundings of a beautiful caravan park, miles away from her new granddaughter.

Either the UK government is in complete chaos, or the agenda is unfolding as planned.
I´m not sure which would be worse, and consider myself very fortunate to be out of it.
We had an "unmasked" concert in my quiet and largely unaffected town, now we have new cases in double figures -- but this danger seems to be incomprehensible to an English Public Schoolboy, educated far beyond his intelligence.
                          Government advice ...? Phooey !
