Firstly, thanks for the welcome from the staff working on a Sunday ...
Greetings from Andalucia, Spain, my home since 2016. I´m about 20 miles inland from Motril on the south coast, just nicely up into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, at around 2,500 feet.
In a “previous life” I was an architectural blacksmith in Yorkshire, but gardening on Slipten Fell was a cold wet business, so I learned nothing.

Now I have a large garden, much of which is totally inaccessible as it runs down to the river 250 feet below the house. The cultivated area is terraced and has many varieties of fruit trees, plus walnuts and chestnuts.
The area is known as “Paraiso” or Paradise, but fortunately the usual entry requirements seem to have been lifted in my case.

Just coming into the real heat now, the grass is brown and sparse, and the ants follow their dual carriageways for huge distances in the summer´s dust. Tomorrow morning a friend will join me and we will divert the two local streams into the orchards, and flood the area round each tree, after we have repaired the depredations of the wild boar. Don´t you just hate it when they rampage through the garden ?

      Welcome to G.C.
Yes since they've reintroduced wild boar into the forest of dean, there have been complaints from nearby residents (the area now has the largest boar population in England)
I sympathise with your dry conditions, it must be awful gardening in such consistent sunshine! :spinning:

I think that these are escapees that have gone feral. Also I believe they are not pure wild boar.
They are causing problems though for dog walkers, foresters and gardeners in the area. There are also populations of "wild boar" in Kent among other places.

            Ola and welcome to GC

I am not that far from you so possibly have similar gardening conditions. I grow tropical and sub-tropical species plants/shrubs/trees .... no fruit or vegetables!

Your area probably get hotter than here, today we will go to 30c with a cooling breeze.

We have wild boars too but they don't come into the orange groves where we live but they are hunted legally ... the Leitao is delicious.

Hope you enjoy the forum and please ask me if you need help. I have lived here 20 years but have owned here 33 years..

Many thanks for the greetings and pleasant responses, and the intelligence that England (I´m standing to attention ) is also plagued with wild boar, no doubt a judgement from On High, but I´m reliably informed it could have been worse. (See the ten plagues of Egypt).
A particular "Hello" to my neighbour Victoria, and you are right, it is over 30 in the coolest shade, and scorchio everywhere else. We get a cooling breeze along the canyon, which can also occur with greater intensity at night, and remove anything which is not tied down. I have seen a garden chair fly past the window.
I hope to post endless boring photos of my gardening efforts, if only for their entertainment value, but in response to JWK, (whose literary skills are belied by his appearance) there is an estate agent´s drone video on YouTube which will put you in the picture :-

There is much in my garden which passes my understanding, and although I find it a blissful environment, it has its dangers. Once I venture down the garden path it´s as if I´ve gone through the back of C S Lewis´s wardrobe and emerged into Narnia. There is no telling when I will return to the “real world,” indeed the garden is so much more real than the world the media describes to me, that one day I will probably not return.
Sometimes I sit and think, and sometimes I just sit ...

Wow, that is a fantastic location and that stream is to die for ... but not for me I hasten to add! I don't like (nor particularly have) neighbours, but at the same time I don't like being the only person on the planet! The location reminds me of a cottage we stayed at in Cordoba some years ago ... never again! :nonofinger:

It does look a bit isolated, but in fact the village is 15 minute´s walk, or if you shut your eyes and walk about a bit, around seven seconds.

Wow that is an amazing location with a property to match. The stream and waterfall are very special.

Why thank you, have you heard of the infinite monkey theorem? In my case it's not Shakespeare that comes out of randomly hitting typewriter keys, just take my gardening advice with a pinch of salt.

It's a great location and I wouldn't mind that. I used to stay at my brother's cottage and it was a remote place nothing but fields for miles and miles and on top of a hill, it was in the Cotswolds.

The small village to us was a 30 minute walk through hilly Olive groves but had a fantastic restaurant ... then you had to waddle back!

I have messed the property about somewhat, JWK, all my working life I danced a stately gavotte with Planning, but here the advice is "Do not wake the sleeping lion," just pay the fine when the Town Hall finds out what you´ve done. I have had a shed built, as being a Northener, I need a place to mumble to myself, and have been reliably informed by my architect that since it has not been officially sanctioned, it doesn´t exist. When I enter it, seeking seclusion, I simply disappear.

Logan, I agree entirely, it´s just a question of having the right altitude.

I don´t go down to the pueblo for dinner Victoria, herself has made it quite clear that the wheelbarrow is for garden use only.
