I has mine taken out late teens at the Dentist, two one week, two the next. Went back to work each time after with gauze stuffed in my mouth! T'other Half had his removed in hospital, two days in and came out Chipmunk looking. I still have one of mine ... it is perfect, was going to have it gold plated and wear around my neck for wisdom. Never did. I told the Dentist yesterday that as she said my tooth was like a wisdom tooth ... she asked me if it did and I said "No" and we all laughed.

Oh, I had to put blue plastic shoes on yesterday. I guess it was in case we had some poo or virus on our feet. Other folk in the Clinic didn't have to, just Dental patients.

I never wear outdoor shoes in the house. Yes, when I go out I do, it would be crazy not to. But I do have a cheap pair of crocs that have never been outside and if I feel the need to wear a pair, I use those. I have crocs for guests too and I always wash them in soap and bleach after each use.

              This is why...

"Your house may be your space to protect, preserve, and clean, but when it comes to asking people to take their shoes off when they visit, many people still hesitate out of fear of being rude. Regardless of your opinion on wearing shoes inside the house, brace yourself, because there’s no way to sugarcoat this: The bottoms of our shoes are positively covered with bacteria and viruses. In one University of Arizona study, E. coli was detected on more than 90 percent of the shoes tested, says Kelly Reynolds, PhD, MSPH, professor, environmental microbiologist, and chair of the Department of Community, Environment and Policy at the University of Arizona.

“That’s more than we find on hands, or on floors,” Dr. Reynolds says. “Shoes are a major vehicle for bringing major contaminants into the home.”

Dr. Reynolds points out that all those germs aren’t a problem until you come into contact with the bottom of your shoe directly, or with the floor they’ve just walked across. “Think about the cycle of transmission,” she says. “Do you have kids crawling around, or do you sit on the floor yourself?” If the germs get on your hand, then you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, you’ve just completed the cycle of transmission, and increased your chances of getting sick.

Wait, it gets worse. “Contaminants on the floor don’t always just stay there,” Dr. Reynolds says. “Bacteria are like magnets—they stick to dust particles, and if a person or a pet stirs up dust on the floor, the bacteria-infused particles can be resuspended in the air, where you can ingest or inhale them and be exposed.”

Oh, and also, bacteria and viruses don’t die quickly. So the germs the plumber tracked through the kitchen last week might very well still be there today. “It depends on the germ and the humidity, but in general we know bacteria can survive for days to weeks, and viruses for weeks to months,” Dr. Reynolds says. “Definitely long enough for you to come into contact with them.”

With all this bad news, you might think Dr. Reynolds has a strict no-shoes policy in her own home. Actually, she doesn’t.

“To be honest, I don’t ask others to remove shoes,” she says. “Most people don’t want to walk around your house barefoot.” Some visitors might even have physical ailments that make walking around barefoot difficult or painful. (Of course, all this may not apply if you’re part of a culture where removing shoes before entering a home is expected.)

Her simple solution for reducing contaminants on her floor and in her air? “As a hostess, I just remember to clean up afterwards.”

She points out that each flooring surface has pros and cons when it comes to germs. “Carpeting is notoriously bad because it will trap contaminants over time, it’s harder to clean, and impossible to disinfect,” she says. “With hard-surface floors, you can disinfect them with dilute bleach or other solutions.” On the other hand, she says, germs are less likely to go airborne on dust particles when they’re trapped in carpeting. “From hard floors, things get resuspended into air easier.”

Excellent article Lori, thank you. Of course here we don't have carpets, well, maybe a rug in the lounge and bedroom. Everything is tiled. floors, walls, ceilings concrete.

What a weird day. I've been busy but don't feel I accomplished much. I feel like I've been a mad old cow!

I did get the garden furniture cushion covers washed and back on and also the chair covers. And all before it rained. Yes, more fee water. And I see a hummingbird zipping around it's feeder trying to keep up level in spite of the deluge.

I had an extremely generous thing done for me today too. Sam tried to fix my new refurbished phone and discovered that the reason it came with a free case is that it has damage on the back of it and it is serious. It is outside of the 14 day warranty period, so capute on that one.

She contacted a friend who helped her fix up her old cell phone and switch my data and everything to it. And now I have a new device. It has three camera ports at the back so just maybe I can get some good pictures for a change. It is a big leap up!

What a wonderful thing to do for me. Wet eyes here. :love30:

                        Bleeding myself for ££££s

We participate in ONS Covid study and give monthly swab tests for infection and blood samples for antibodies. £25 gift voucher per visit, I will spend mine on a cast iron giraffe toilet roll holder and The Teenager will probably support Chinese earring or crop top industry :heehee:

I was chatting with our Covid Guy whilst The Teenager was bleeding herself, apparently our recent jabs might not show as positive antibodies. The jab antibodies are so much lower count than after-infection ones that the test may not pick them up. That's a shame, I was looking forward to see how the antibodies build up.

Booked a 'seat' for the upcoming performance of 'The Dumb Waiter' at The Old Vic in London. It's an 'on-line' 'as it happens' performance - so as close as you're going to get to actually sitting in a theatre.

I hope these on-line performances continue after the 19th - we wouldn't be watching this performance if we had to travel all the way down to London.

I don't usually comment on here because my days are mostly boring apart from being in the garden,
but yesterday one of my smoke alarms went of suddenly for no reason. It sounded twice in a few minutes, for about 3 seconds each time.
It frightened me a bit because I thought the house was on fire, but the back door and most windows were open and there was no smoke anywhere.
I don't know what caused it, I'd like to find out.

It wasn't a flat battery because that makes a constant low beep. This was the alarm itself sounding for 3 seconds, and that wouldn't be a good way of warning someone the battery was flat - you could be out when it went off and wouldn't hear it.

I haven't heard it since so am wondering what could have caused it.

From my experience they tend to get more temperamental as they get older - perhaps the sensor only lasts so long. I suspect that you will be getting more false alarms - and you don't want a false alarm at 3 in the morning . I've recently replaced an old smoke alarm that went off at the merest hint of water vapour - shower or kettle - it would go off.

Also purchased a CO2 alarm - they are as cheap as chips nowadays.
