On Jeremy Vine this morning "Is it selfish to stop wearing masks after July 19th?" Why is it that selfishness is never acknowledged to work both ways with this pandemic? Why not "Is it selfish to expect everyone else to continue to wear masks because I'm part of a minuscule minority of people who are particularly vulnerable?"

Covid: Self-isolation to be scrapped for double-jabbed and children in England

I suppose that means if somebody in a household has Covid, the remainder of their double jabbed family will continue going into work [1]/pubs/etc. and their kids to school?

I think the statistics need to be looked at.
For starters, we are told how many new cases each day, but are we told out of how many tests?
That needs to be compared with when there was the same amount of cases each day, second wave, with also the same amount of tests on that day.

I'd also, like to know how many of the new cases each day are asymptomatic.

We get figures but they dont really mean much to me.

Are people dropping like flies?

They keep saying cases are rising, but surely every new case is a potential immune person.

Its how badly it hits people that is the figure we should be looking at.

 

Its all part of the mind games the government have been playing.
If you tell people the mask protects you from others, lots of people wont bother.

If you tell people it is to protect others, and not yourself, you are then put under a moral obligation to wear one.

And if you dont, you are putting everyone else's life in danger.

 

Unfortunately, that information will only be available after/if it all goes horribly wrong.

 

I was a bit surprised to hear that masks do not protect the wearer - they protect the people around them. The idea being that if you have a mask on and burst out into song in the middle of a packed Morrisons - the mask stops you spreading the virus into the air - and so it doesn't get to the other people.

I think they said that there was only minimum protection for the people wearing them.

Personally, I've had my two jabs and will be getting the booster later on this year - I won't be wearing a mask when I nip over the border into England.

Mark needs to realise that, to people, the border between England and Wales only exists on a map - people move freely in and out of Wales/England.

Maintaining lock down in Wales:

1 - won't make any difference to the spread of the virus;
2 - will make Mark look silly when everyone ignores him.

 

It will be a cold day in Hell when I take notice of government advice (and you won´t be able to get near the fire for vicars).
Personally however, I can work out for myself, that in the event of my incubating the virus, a mask would limit the range of the water droplets exhaled in my breath, and reduce the chances of my infecting other people.
Due to old age, asthma, and smoking marijuana constantly, I need to take a breather every hundred yards or so when masked, since by then I´m breathing like a brass band, and hills are a bit of a challenge -- but I live amongst friendly generous people, whose kindness I value immensely, and wearing a mask is a mark of respect for them, and a minuscule hardship for me.
Covid reveals how much we care about each other.

 

They initially said it reduced your risk of catching the virus by 6%, but I think you should continue to wear one "until you feel safe", as John put it, or until you feel that those around you are safe. It's not all about approaching things rationally in these situations, you have to do the thing that makes you feel most comfortable psychologically.

I think Boris has struck a good balance - people taking personal responsibility and making up their own minds. I feel safe now with two jabs - even more so when I have the booster. With the NHS ploughing on with vaccinations - risks continue to fall - and I feel safer.

Boris said it yesterday - yes it is still risky - but we can't ignore the risks to mental health, other illnesses going untreated and the economy.

I'm hankering to get back to some sort of normality - I've already lost a year and half - I'm not losing any more - the clock continues to tick....

 

I think if it was me that wanted to wear a mask because of maybe health problems I'd be looking into getting a proper one and not a bit of paper or an old bit of rag.

If the mask doesn't protect the wearer then why do nhs people wear them when treating covid patients.
There must be enough proper PPE in the country now for those that want to continue wearing masks to be able to get hold of proper medical grade ones.

 

We'll continue to wear masks in enclosed environments, especially as social distancing is ending.

 

When shopping this morning it was very quite, not many school kids about, lots around here isolating, i wonder if the sales of juice's has gone up to get false postives just before the school hols extre 2 weeks

 

Cautionary tale, my grandson 14 years old came home from school after failing a covid test. A day later he was very ill with flu like symptoms. My step daughter who had just had a second jab a week ago then became ill with Covid. Followed by my grand daughter, 13 years old. Then keeping it in the family dad, who has had two established jabs became ill with Covid. Nothing to warrant hospital luckily, they are not bed bound, more like the walking wounded. The type D covid is a serious variant and not to be taken lightly. The Wigan area which had one of the lowest rates in the northwest, but within two weeks is the highest. Just be careful busy indoor places are not the place to be for a couple of months.
