@Selleri, I can't see on my profile page that you are following me. If you have unfollowed me I am sorry if I've upset you. I didn't know you were following me and I didn't understand what it meant. Now that I know, I don't mind if you follow me.
It was nothing personal and I'm sorry if I've upset you and made you unfollow.

@Michael Hewett no no no, you got it all mixed up I think- sorry for any confusion! It is actually Pete I started to follow for a bit of a joke, and to try out the "follow" function.

On that note, I could very well follow you as I'm a big fan of your cacti plants and knowledge and don't want to miss any posts around the subject. :dbgrtmb:

Actually I also feel a bit uneasy about the term "follow". Can it be changed to something less creepy please admins? Perhaps it is standard social media terminology but for us not so savvy in that field it can sound a bit odd. @JWK?

Thank you @Selleri, I've got the wrong end of the stick again, but I can see it now that I've looked back. I must pay more attention and be more observant. My head is in the clouds most of the time.

You are welcome to follow me

I also find the word 'following' creepy, that's why I asked about it. Maybe it's time for me to get up to date with 21st century language,
but you can't teach an old dog new tricks, as they say:old:

As far as I know the 'follow' terminology is part of the general purpose forum software xenforo that we use. I do agree it is a little creepy but I think we are stuck with it.

They use the word "follow " on lots of sites, there really isn't anything creepy about it.
I honestly didn't know I had done that.
I'll have a look later at my profile page and see who I'm going to allow.

              You have been warned.

I've never heard the word before @pete and it made me feel as if I was being stalked. You have to understand what the 21st century meaning for some words are, and I don't.
'Streaming' is another I didn't understand until I found out what it meant.

I sometimes use Flickr for photos, you often get people you don't know who "follow" you, but it just means you have the same interests, or not so much in my case, they like your photography.

I think it's a good thing to keep alert about everything around you when on the net but I also believe that forums like this are a safety zone. No problems!

Facebook - well, there's another animal. I don't post there often and only visit about once a week to respond to a message sent to me or to post the odd joke. And my girlfriends have our own little forum within facebook that is private. Facebook constantly tells you about "friend requests" which are mixed in with "friend suggestions". The suggestions are usually a friend of a friend of a friend so I ignore them. I even had one suggesting I friend myself :heehee:

Last week I did get a request from some dude in Florida. And I quickly replied that I didn't know him and who was our link? He just had some fuzzy reply that he liked my posts (the few there are..) so I hit the reject button. Obviously someone phishing. It was the first of this type for me so I'm not overly alarmed.

That kind of nonsense would never happen here - our admin may have been born at night but it wasn't last night!

@pete I just looked at your profile page, out of curiosity, and got a message saying 'This member limits who may view their full profile'

It's working now, I can see it  but I'm not going to go looking at everyone's profile, I just like to see what's growing in people's gardens, and show what I'm growing in mine.

Agree, it's most often used on social media sites like Twitter where some 'celebrities' have millions of followers. I just checked my profile and it seems I am following a few members but can't remember doing that.

I don't think it has much significance on here as we have quite a small number of regular posters and I just scroll through the recent threads to look at ones of interest to me.

I always feel like I'm signing up to a cult when I press the "Follow" button anywhere. :heehee: A lot of the people I initially followed here when I joined a couple of years ago have left the forum, so I've unfollowed them. I don't know if them leaving had anything to do with me following them!:roflol:
@pete You've got 11 followers, just one more and you're basically a horticultural version of Jesus.
