Got my first ripe tomato this morning - a Sungold, but it was split.... and I dropped it on the compost with the split side down so it got lobbed to the birds. After last years bumper tomato crop this year is looking pretty poor, almost certainly not helped by the fact that I cannot find my tomato food so am feeding with growmore at the moment.

All mine are kind of stalled, picked a handful today and even a few not properly ripe to bring indoors on the windowsill. We need a big dose of sun.

I think the big issue is, how long will it last?

We need the rest of July and all of August to be warm dry and sunny just to catch up on the lost last 6 weeks.
We are nearly half way through our 3 summer months, because the one month that always comes right on time is September.
Even in a warm September, growth pretty much stops.

Aye, I must admit I am not holding out a lot of hope for most things this year - - things like sweetcorn are going nuts, my brassicas seem to be as good as I have ever grown (not a kitemark mind you!), my peas are rubbish, but then they always are as I seem to repel peas.... I have the odd tomato plant that have fruit that look pretty good just very few fruit... not a great year.

Our forecast shows solid sunshine for the next two weeks with temps in mid to upper 70's. Hot enough for both me and the garden.

I grow Garden Pearl in hanging baskets in the greenhouse.....fat chance of tomatoes ripening up here unless you get a scorcher like 2018. I find the first ones are a bit on the tasteless side but improve later. Hopefully yours will do the same. They come true from seed if you choose to grow them again.

                        I'll give you a giggle....

Being a wee bit short on space, having filled a couple of trough-style planters with chillies, I decided to put some chillies into hanging baskets that I then hung from the roof inside the greenhouse; not a clue what type they are as they weren't labeled when we bought them, but we knew there was a bit of a mix of peppers. Turns out, a couple of the ones in the hanging baskets aren't chillies.... they are sweet peppers! I will try and get a photo later :heehee:

This one is apparently a heritage variety - don't know which one at the moment, but will try and find the label for it. Seems happy enough.

Well Fat Controller, it may not be conventional but your peppers look a damn sight healthier than any I have tried over the years. I have no idea why my sweet peppers were always pants when I can grow chilli, tomatoes and cucumbers ( OMG I’m up to my neck in them atm). I don’t often admit defeat but I have not sown sweet peppers this season. Added to my list of failures could well be melon. Currently they are doing a good impression of Triffids if you are old enough to remember those films and the few and far between females are literally the size of peas currently:rolleyespink:.
