I wanted to buy a new pressure washer yesterday so looked online for the best price. Wickes were the cheapest for the model I wanted (£10 less than the nearest competitor) so I phoned my local store to see if they had one.

The man at the other end said their computers are down so he can't check. So I asked if anyone at the store had a pair of legs and eyes . He sounded puzzled at that so I said 'Can someone go and have a look'? He said that they don't have anyone spare as they were all working at the tills but if I checked online it would tell me :rolleyespink:.

So I checked and it said that there were ten in stock at that store. So, as they said it would be waiting for me in an hour if I used Click and Collect I proceeded to do so. The form was quite easy and asked for my name (no address - presumably as I was going to collect), home phone number and mobile number. I don't have a mobile so it wouldn't let me get any further. :wallbanging:

If they weren't £10 cheaper I would have gone elsewhere but I drove to the store and bought one. As they don't have them on the shelf someone had to go to their storeroom (using legs and eyes :heehee:) and get one for me.

I have put an official complaint into HO. :old:

Why are refills of instant coffee more expensive per 100g than an average sized glass jar of the same. Can be a £1.00 per 100g more.

Come to that, why are black olives always in tins, and green olives always in glass jars?
        We should be told.

He's twisting the truth. The reason why HS2 isn't affecting materials supply locally is because they are getting them direct from the manufacturers, and creating a shortage nationally.

Just ordered the timber for the neighbour's gate. The bloke at the shop said that they have to check prices at each delivery as they are going up - up - up. Some of the stuff I wanted was out of stock so I had to improvise.

We did have a good half hour moan to each other about the rising cost of timber - and had a right old go at the furlough scheme.

Luckily I've got some spare gate furniture - so that should keep the cost down for the neighbour.

Just an fyi, the price of lumber over here has apparently hit it's acme. Mills are now catching up and prices will settle back down. However I am very sure it won't go fully down to the pre-pandemic price!

I wanted a bag of cement.
I was told it was out of stock.

I also ordered a bulk bag gravel.

When I was delivered I noticed a pallet of cement on the lorry.

I think there is only shortages for the public, the trade can still get stuff.

I always found that gates, and their hinges, lasted a lot longer if they had something to rest on when open.
Even more so with wooden ones.

Glad I moved from the Sun to the Daily Star - why is no one else reporting this important news?

'Alien burp' may have been detected by Mars Curiosity rover on red planet.

You can't beat the UK press - I love it

Yup, lumber prices are now coming back down but estimated aug/sept before normalises.

Two small puncture marks on a right arm Popeye would have been proud of -- I´ve bin spidered.

Not so sure about that Pete. We have been doing some building work plus trying to get some maintenance work done, we are struggling to get materials.

We have only been allowed 10 bags of cement at a time, I needed 240 x 9inch hollow blocks along with 120 solid's. Absolutely nothing locally, had to send our 26 tonne truck on a 100 mile round trip to get some, only to get there and be told they didn't have all the blocks after all. If they told me that on the phone prior to setting off, as it didn't justify sending the truck for 120 blocks and 10 bags of cement.

I can't get machined round timber posts, I could of sold at least 3 artic loads this year, last load I had was spring last year.
