Price or size doesn't matter to me at all.
Each plant has it's own merits and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I've got bits of fleabane and oxalis sticking out of a wall which some gardeners would pull out, but i like them.

@Silver surfer Thanks, very interesting. They are quite attractive plants as babies too, have never seen one that young before! :) Yes, the fact that they're so tender is the other thing that has always put me off as well as the price, one would seriously struggle here in Notts even with protection.

I perceive things similarly as a pollinator-friendly gardener. The more I learn about plants and their relationships with insects, the fewer and fewer plants there seem to be in my garden that qualify as weeds! :dunno::biggrin: And two of my lawn 'weeds' (White Clover and Self-Heal) are among my favourite plants!

Hurray! Now we are in agreement!!!!
        Price is irrelevant.
I just used Tree ferns as an example.

Up here growing in the lime mortar on very old bridges is one of my favourite flowers...
        Erinus alpinus. Fairy foxgloves.
What a joy. It seems to be mostly mauve or pink. But there is a white one. While I am at it.
A wild flower is grown up here as a green manure...is Phacelia tanacetifolia.
                Insects and bees love it.
I just adore to see fields of it.

I've got some clumps of lungwort both at home and on the allotment (under rhubarb) As I'm sure you know they grow well in shady areas with masses of pink n blue flowers through Spring.
                  The bees love it.

In our old garden we had many different Pulmonaria...yes they love shade.
Like people collect stamps I used to collect plants!
Try white flowered one as in Pulmonaria Sissinghurst White.4 - 7.
Pulmonaria Dora Bielfeld...Pink flowers.1-3 etc etc

They are so very important for the bees early in the year.

Lovely plant, such a captivating flower structure. :)

Things pretending to be bees love it, too! I once transplanted some pulmonaria from a very shady spot to a partly sunny area and as soon as I stepped into the sun with the clump a load of bee-flies surrounded the plant and started drinking from it. There's something rather magical about carrying a plant whilst a load of pollinators are eagerly feeding from it! :)

Up here there are many abandoned railway lines.
                          Mr Beeching closed them all.
