I got rid of mine because it grew too big and became ugly.

    I agree, I've got one.

Nick, it flowers for a month or so and then you get the berries.
To be honest its just part of an informal hedge on the allotment, I dont think I'd grow it purely for it decorative value.

@pete We have white bindweed and pink as well! ;)

Well done @Cordy. Many of you seem to have that lovely Blue Bird.

@CanadianLori Ooh, you got the braided tri-colour. Make sure you get a photo should all three colours bloom at once.

I've seen pink and white stripy ones growing on dunes by the sea, they're pretty

We have all the Convolvulus and Calystegias species here and I think they are pretty too. It is just the "Morning Glory" one that is so invasive.

What you need is a good frost, minus 5 c seems to sort it out.

The last saw frost I remember was a freak one in February 2009 ... Jacaranda mimosifolia, Strelitzia nicholai, Ficus elastica, Lantan camara, Carrisa macrocarpa and Podranea ricosoliana ...

                          Frost4.JPG

                          Frost5.JPG

All survived barring the Carissa macrocarpa which was fruiting!

I will easily exchange my brief heatwaves for the brief frostwaves ... things survive better here with the former.

The one we used to call bindweed (C. sepium I think) is the worse one, you have to get every tiny bit out otherwise it will regrow with a vengeance. It's usually white but I've seen it in pink. It was in my parents' garden and I used to spend hours trying to dig it out. It goes down a long way.

The one I've seen on dunes is smaller and runs through the sand.

Strange frost pictures @Victoria , that must have been a freek time.

Hi @Michael Hewett we have the large white flowered white bindweed and also, to a lesser extent, the small pink flowered one.

Do you regard them as weeds @pete ? In my parents garden they were a terrible nuisance.
I've only seen the small pink one on dunes by the sea.
