I am determined to get more of the "autumn" work done. Covering up items like umbrellas which will no longer be needed as it has cooled down tremendously. It rained last night so I'll raise them until they dry and then cover. I did get all of last years seedling pots (about 140) filled with new potting soil and stacked in the greenhouse closest to the side door.

And continue trying to get free seeds from my plants. It is a statutory holiday here, Labour Day, so it will be nice hearing the children in the neighbourhood playing while I'm out doing some tidying.

I do have lots of perennials to sort out. They seemed to jump into areas where they weren't wanted and now it is a totally unorganized mess out there!

I've always done my own DIY. (could afford to get someone in to do the work)
After we got our first home I bought a Readers Digest book on DIY (still have it)
I can now do, Brick Laying, Plastering, Electrical work and decorating.
The two jobs I can't/won't do is Roofing or Plumbing.

I bought one of those way back in the last century. I think I nearly opened it once. Gave it away the other month. We also have the Collins Complete DIY. I see Mrs Shiney has got it in the pile of books for her online booksale.

I potted up 32 Iresine cuttings that had rooted in water. I took so many because I didn't think they would all take, but they did ...
I also took some shrub cuttings of variegated Box, trailing Rosemany, various Penstemons, etc
It's been too hot to do anything else ...

I continued with doing the shed yesterday and had made room to put a load of plastic stacking chairs in there. Total time spent on shed so far is 8 hours. Just the stuff on the shelves to sort through now - about 60ft of shelving in total on the racking. There's also a pile of stuff covered by a tarp in one of the back corners. I don't even want to look there! :hate-shocked: :heehee: Someone is coming tomorrow to see what goodies they may want.

I may do some more mowing if it doesn't get too hot. I've already picked 5lb of beans this morning then spotted that our toms in the greenhouse have got blight. So took off the good toms, got a wheelie bin to the greenhouse, cut the plants down and dumped them and the compost from all the pots they were in into the bin and wheeled back to the road as our bins go out today.

I was really pleased to see the Cobaea covered in flowers and buds. There are a good few dozen of them. They were planted out at the end of June and are now thickly covering 15ft of an overhead catenary cable and marching up over the roof.

The ground here is cracking up badly and I have put the sprinkler on the veggies.

Snipped the dead heads off the cosmos and dahlias. I pulled up the tagetes which were planted to keep bugs away from the flowers and they seemed to have done the trick. No aphids and hardly any earwigs.
There are sunflowers still to bloom and although they are monstrous they disguise a boring fence, the grandchildren love them and they cheer up walkers down the lane. So definitely worth planting:spinning: Beautiful day out there so they slow sunflowers should soon bloom.
One flower on my remaining salvia (armistead). Lots of leaves and a healthy plant but flowers are lacking:frown:

Yesterday cut the flower stalks off the lavender and put them in a few papers bags to dry out, then later watering.

Today it's too hot to do anything out there, was going to help hubby cut the pyracantha hedge but he's not doing that, so we talked each other out of it.

Just about managed to get 100 crocus bulbs in, ably assisted by son (aged 4), before realising it's too hot for gardening!

Apart from cleaning windows with hubs this morning ,the only other thing today was sweeping and tidying the 3 patios and their borders as the leaves are certainly starting to come down...not sure if it's the start of the seasonal drop or due to lack of water, some of the surrounding trees in our lane do look a bit sad. Some are even dead!!

@MrDigwell the pyracantha hedge only needs trimming so just wear leather gloves for that, but there's a lot to do because hubby was recovering from hernia surgery and the weather, only going to get a chance this week, maybe on Thursday it's cooler then. Good luck with yours.

Please be careful dear Woo. If you bother yourself up, then there is no one. Can one of your boys assist over the weekend? Sending hugs. Vxx

                            :yikes::nonofinger::nonofinger::nonofinger::nonofinger: Woo!! Naughty ,naughty!!

Bark chipping is not important ,and I'm certain your family would agree too. YOU and your health are!!
So please stop , especially in this heat.

Once it cools down then we will prescribe you one bag a day..but no more:nonofinger:.

                            :recliner: Sit down.. OK.
