    I thought I would put up a thread on one of my favourite shrubs, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. These are the ones I have (I don't know all the names) and please feel free to add yours.

      H 'Pagoda Red' opened a bloom this morning and has three more buds ... all on a single stem!

        Hi @Victoria I think they are gorgeous but sadly need more warmth than I can provide! The white one with the red centre is particularly lovely. I have a hibiscus coccineus that I grew from seed, but it only flowers once in a blue moon.

          Absolutely love these.
          Lidl normally have them for sale each year, but I haven't seen them yet, or I've missed them!
          Lost all nine of mine three years ago to a winter attack of RSM. By the time I discovered it they were going crispy....maybe a tad too dry over winter

            @CarolineL
            The White with Red Center is the one I have had the longest, since 2007. It grows to two meters plus tall and gets straggly so have to cut it back drastically. Cut it and the Brugmansia back the other day and threw them away and thought how many people would be cringing at such waste!

              Obviously I do too! :heehee: I have six in the ground, the rest in pots. Our winters are wet but no frosts, just have to do copious watering the rest of the year.

                I bought this a few years ago from the Poundshop, planted in the garden. Grown quite large so I pruned it in the Spring, now lots of Green leaves.

                  Hello John. Yours is the Hibiscus syriacus species, possibly 'Oiseau Bleu' (Blue Bird). I had three huge (gutter high) shrubs of them in Alabama We called them Rose of Sharon. You can get lovely hybrids now.

                    I think you can get a pretty large flowered H. Syriacus now.
                    But the name escapes me. :biggrin:

                          I thought I lost this HibisQs 'Petit Sunrise' in our cold snap earlier this year, but after much TLC it has recuperated and I repotted it in a ice rotund terracotta pot today. This was it in it's glory ...

                            @Victoria I didn't know about this thread until you mentioned it in another comment to someone. They're beautiful flowers, I didn't realize there were so many colours. I've never seen one in real life but can understand you wanting to collect them :smile:

                              Thank you Michael. I am fortunate I can grow them outside all year round. To me they are unique.

                              I will add the two that bloomed this week here now. Sadly they are one-day wonders.

                                Shame they are so short-lived but they are fascinating and beautiful.
