    Saw a Grey Squirrel in our garden yesterday for the first time ever. Think it has discovered the hazelnuts in neighbouring gardens.

    What crops do they eat?

    I think @JWK has had experience of them

      Apples, sunflower seeds (one year I was quicker though, squirrel was surprised not to find sunflower head, looked at the stems from different angels, touched with paws) and flowering heads. These are the things I was upset about.

        All soft fruit, courgettes and marrows, bulbs and they are currently digging up my lawn maybe after earthworms or larvae. At the allotment which is only a few hundred yards away I have never had an issue with them, just have foxes and rabbits instead.

        All hazenuts and wallnuts gone if you have bird feeders which will be easy food for them, but i now only have 2 squirrels which are not being a problem at the mow so they can stay but ....

          What about pumpkins, custard squash, turks turbans, etc.


          We get the occasional stoat in our garden.

          They tend to take a few bites at courgettes rather than eat the whole thing. I don't grow pumpkins anymore but seem to think they left them alone. I have ornamental gourds this year which haven't been touched.
