Buying mulch, not sure what's best for a new planted border leaf / compost or small bark ? Soils been well worked over but more goodness will help.
Also sorting out a few large pots that I will use to fill in some gaps until the new shrubs grow.
Maybe is I'm up to it, sort out my shed because I can not get into it for the junk that's piled up

(Still got about 1/6 of the wild flower meadow to cut, but I need to start on compost rotating first!!)

I've been clearing the patio and lean-to of all pots and tubs, also table chairs etc (and junk). Builders are coming on Monday to demolish it all.

I did intend to lay mulch, went and bought a truckload of it this morning but decided to tend to a few other jobs in the hope it rains before I mulch, I did spend a little while watching bees on theCaryopteris , fitted a new pole type bird feeder and accidentality headbutted the water tray part so my head got watered, a few bees landed on my head to have a drink, though all I got on my camera was a close up on my nose, got some of them on the Caryopteris though :)

Didn't get the shredder out, spent time in the greenhouse removing finished tomato plants. planted up 4 large pots of freesia bulbs (that had begun to sprout). Refreshed the compost in Heliodocerous muscivora (Dead Horse Arum) which are also beginning to sprout. Also removed Dianella tasmanica (New Zealand Flax) from raised sunny area where it has been a relentless producer of runners. I have another one growing in shade at the other end of the garden; it's a lot happier and better behaved there. Also decided to contact tree surgeon regarding over large conifers in the garden. Anybody know how to find a good one?
So today on with the weeding etc and compost heap filling.

Always personal recommendations @NigelJ . If you can't get those there's often trees being chopped in the area so you can have a look at their work; there's also a site called Nextdoor that you can ask the nearby area for recommendations. Ignore the ones suggesting themselves!

Cheers @Loofah just posted question on Nextdoor.
Neighbours had a large ash tree demolished earlier this year intend to call on them one evening.
Also had a look at the Arboricultural Association website and got a couple of companies to contact.

@Loofah Nextdoor quickly delivered 4 possibles. Have contacted them regarding work. May well start separate thread to cover, with photos.
Trees are covered by an area TPO and last time I asked 20 years ago council said absolutely no way. However 20 years further growth leads me to have another go.

Good news @NigelJ . I have a swathe of TPO trees at the back of my place that are leftover woodland from when they built a posh estate there. Funny they can remove 90% of tree to build some mansions but the remaining ones can't be touched!
Fortunately lots of people up our lane have already gone through the process so when I get round to it I'll copy some of the approved applications. Browsing through them is amusing, some basically say 'chop them thar trees' and others have multiple arborial reports plus scale diagrams, and all applications have been approved.

I assume that the conifers are not Leylandii as those can't have a TPO - as far as I remember when I did my research on it (I removed 22 of them that were over 40 years old). Our local authority said that Leylandii are classified as a hedge

Yesterday I did some harvesting (beans are virtually finished and now the home of millions of blackfly :rolleyespink: but courgettes etc. are still going strong) and picked up a 30 litre bucket of windfalls. Then I did a bit of digging/weeding.
