I will be doing this too. The spring bulbs I have harvested from around the garden are mixed up in pots for safe keeping. I would happily put them our now but I have no idea which bulbs are which. :heehee:

    I planted a wallflower a few years ago. It now looks like this;

Last year, the display at the front of my house looked like this.

      Now it looks like this

The barrel and the pots are new. Everything else, including the plants, I have pulled together from elsewhere. I will try to keep an eye on it and add seasonal colour to it whenever necessary. I have plans to do update the plant pots on the other side of the step but that will now have to wait until after pay day. I am discovering that there is only so many improvements you can make in one go.

Glad someone else has a bulb 'lucky dip ' to plant out too....happens every year here.:heehee:

I've been brutal this year and pulled up some of our larger Wallflowers, as they were now heading for border domination!

Not done much again this morning, but did pot up some more Fuchsia cuttings.

Sat outside studying certain borders before attempting to draw up future plans for them, whilst keeping a beady eye on hubs as he's busy painting, cleaning gutters and removing moss from the slates.......from up on a ladder!! Turns me into a nervous wreck watching him!! IMG_20210925_121331_hdr.jpg IMG_20210925_121345_hdr.jpg

@Upsydaisy Hubby won't go up ladders anymore, he feels unsafe.

My wallflowers don't do very well after the first year and some die so i do them every year.

Wish mine wouldn't...he's 'll even clamber over the pitch roof , set up our scaffolding tower and climb that too.

I grow some Wallflowers every season too and use new ones to replace the older ones after about 3years. They get to grow to a decent size by their 2nd year and then provide some nice evergreen foiilage for the rest of the year.

Been playing around with one of our main borders ( on paper) marked in the perennials that will be kept, ( maybe move a tad) and then have enough space to add some more Dahlias.:fingers crossed:

It's good to change things around sometimes and I know why you're doing it for.

Yes to hopefully make it a bit easier to maintain, but to be honest we usually change things a tad each year ,...adding new borders, changing the shape of existing ones etc. We bordered the lawns this year with lots of Lavatera Trees ( Tree Mallow) ...most will go (some have already) or be moved for next year.
I like to have a bit of a change each year , otherwise it gets a bit boring ... I can often tell what year it is in our garden photos by the plantings. :heehee:

I can't find wallflowers anywhere. They used to be all over being sold wrapped in wet newspaper but not seen any recently.

I've been sorting through the plant hoard today , got a few that must go anywhere but back in the plant hoard, another group I am going to get rid of ( dump them on mum :stirpot: :heehee: ) and all the other tidied up and weeded / potted on or moved onto the surface that water will hopefully run off . Just got plant hoard number 2 to look at round the back of the shed . I've been having at good look at what plants I do have cause I am thinking of taking up the front lawn to plant up.

Ordered some seeds from chiltern, salvia nutans I've considered before and a random 20 packs of seeds I like surprises like these . I am going garden centre tomorrow for some bulb shopping , I were going to another GC and pop into town today for some bits and pieces , wasn't sure I'd mange both journeys on what fuel I've got in the bike .

I have taken down my sweet peas, they became full of greenfly, and I have cut back a big Clematis that had finished flowering.
Can't muster up any enthusiasm to do much at the moment.

Bulbs, apart from Tulips are in.

I have spent some sleepless nights planning the perfect planting scheme, marrying suitable containers, optimising flowering times and calculating how many bulbs will go into each planter and how many into small pots to bring indoors. [IMG]

It all started well but at some point I got distracted as a bit of this and that needed to be moved into bigger pots and now I have a dozen containers with a random assortment and no idea what's where. I'll find out sooner or later.

Tomato plants got pulled out and the last harvest roasted with chilli and garlic, ready to become a (hopefully) lovely sauce. My best compliments to "Sweet Olive", the plants have produced a large handful of fruit daily since July- a very good result up here. :)

Planning, planting scheme what are these things. My approach is very basic, bulbs, empty pots and compost. Compost into pots, bulbs into compost, water and then stand at side of greenhouse. Spring time; move the ones coming into flower to the front of the house and rotate round.
In the rest of garden, pick up plant, wander around with trowel until a space is spotted, is it vaguely suitable? is there anything else known to under the ground there? If yes and probably not then plant goes into space.
