    They probably won't, far too many jobs available in Europe, they don't need to come this far.

    A spokesman for the haulage industry said there are 40,000 applications waiting on desks at Swansea, they basically shut down over the pandemic.

    And are not doing much very quickly even now.
    Good job those individuals were not working in the supermarkets,otherwise we would be in deep trouble.

      Yep. I've said it before. The two most important jobs are shop workers and bin men. Either goes down - everything goes pear shaped - very quickly.

        Don't forget the NHS, I don't know if anyone saw that bit in the labour party conference when the shadow chancellor was spouting.
        She then asked for a round of applause for some key workers sitting on front row.
        It just came across as quite embarrassing and patronising.

                If all commercial cleaners went on strike, the whole country would soon come to a stinking standstill. The NHS can't function without cleaners, in my eyes they are key workers and to many people don't give them the respect they deserve.

                  The blunt truth is that there are very few people who are rich who give two hoots about the working class - not that they are nasty people in any way, they simply do not even think/consider all the jobs that make their world function.

                  Working class folks who are almost always struggling one way or another to make ends meet not only do all of those jobs but also pay handsomely in taxes to pay to keep the elites in their positions of power and influence, or to give them profits. Don't own your own home - sure, that is 49.9% APR sir (whilst borrowing it at 0.5% or less).... can't afford an electric car - sure, pay taxation in the region of 86% (as applied) plus congestion charges, parking charges and VED.....

                  Rent gone up £100 a month? Don't know what you are complaining about - - my wage rise has more than covered my cost of living rise so you must be doing something wrong..... the fact that the 'my' in this scenario is on a wage of £250k to begin with is the answer.

                  And they wonder why folk get stressed, depressed, ill and angry??

                    I dont think this is anything new, its how it has always been. Occasionally the lower classes have reared their ugly head, but it never really gets them anywhere.

                    We all remember this, nothing changes.

                      I can never get my head around why pay increments are always a percentage, it just means the ritch get ritcher and widens the gap even more from the poor
                      Even the Unions go for the percentage route, it should IMHO be an equal set sum for all across the board Not £10 for Jimmy and £146 for bob the ceo

                        Absolutely, but this is where the law of percentages (and time between then and now) comes into play - not my words here by the way...

                        The average deposit for a house in the London/South East area is £130k. Oh, and the only way you'd stand a chance at a council house is if you can row a dinghy.

                            I think, regarding house prices, you can blame all those that see a house as in investment, rather than just somewhere to live.
                            Whenever house prices start to fall, which isn't often, there is big trouble, remember negative equity of some years ago and all the re-possessions that went on.

                            Any government that allows house prices to fall is not going to last long.

                            As for the old chestnut of building more houses and that will bring the price down, that is just the house builders way of justifying their existence and future rip off of land and money.

                            Personally, as long as it happens right across the board I couldn't care how much my house is worth.

                              Properties as investments is pretty much the whole problem - that, and a complete and utter dearth of 'social' (council) housing. It all looked great at the time when things were on the way up but the law of percentages is now meaning that there is absolutely no chance that a working class person will ever get their foot on the housing ladder. That in turn means more folks are renting, and when they fall into problems the housing benefit given out has to be much higher than it would have cost to house them in a council house. Great for the landlords as they are getting their money, but disastrous for the public purse.

                              Most folk, to be honest, wouldn't give a monkeys about actually owning their house - if they could live in it for their whole life or until they chose otherwise, keep it in good order etc and pay a reasonable rent, they'd be quite happy. Most of my family rented their houses from the council (indeed, one still does!) on this basis and worked away quite happily. They weren't well off by any stretch, but they were able to get by fairly comfortably for the most part

                              Covid has sort of crystalised this, as many workers who would be slogging their guts out to drive a bus or bin lorry to pay extortionate rents have simply gone "enough" and walked away. Not worth their while anymore, and to be honest who can blame them. That is where the HGV crisis originates.

                                These are the people who perpetuate the worlds financial systems.

                                In the past - slaves were paid with food/accomodation. Today - slaves are paid with money - so that they can purchase food/accommodation.

                                Money is a way to control people - not many seem to realise this.

                                You are a successful human being if you accumulate more things than your peers - aren't you?

                                Don't forget to COMPLY:

                                - go to school;
                                - go to work;
                                - earn money to buy things;
                                - get married;
                                - buy a property;
                                - have 2.5 kids;
                                - pay into a pension until you retire;
                                - retire;
                                - croak it (preferably just after you retire)..then the whole cycle goes around again.

                                Sorry, just had an existential crisis...
