Hello, this has popped up in my garden, it has pink and white striped flowers on (all knocked off by the rain). My ID app for this leaf says it's Morning Glory, is that just bindweed by a prettier name? There's only one tendril that I can see and I have stuck a cane in to encourage it up and away, but it's in a bit of a wild patch so not doing any harm at the moment. TIA for any advice. 2021-09-26T11_26_44+01_00.JPEG

Looks more like morning glory to me.
Ipomoea, it will probably die this winter.

Phew. Thanks. Ok - it can stay for now then, the flowers are pretty when they do come out.

Different plants. Hedge Bindweed is an invasive perrenial, and Morning Glory a less vigorous annual in the UK.

When you say pink and white striped flowers, did they look like those in image below (colours can vary in intensity), because that's Field Bindweed, another perrenial invasive weed, but your leaf doesn't look right for that.

P.S. Don't believe everything on the internet, this Alamy stock photo of pink and white morning glory flowers is actually of a petunia plant! Stock Photo - Morning glory flowers

Hmm - no, I don't think the white strip was quite as well defined as in that image, the pink and white were more blended at the edges.

I suggest a google image search of 'field bindweed flowers' and keep an eye on that plant for shape of leaves and growth habit, the field bindweed is relatively low growing compared to morning glory (and hedge bindweed), plus has smaller leaves and much smaller flowers.

Thanks scrungee - will do, although field bindweed images look so similar to morning glory ones I really can't tell them apart.
I'll try and get a flower pic tomorrow and see if that helps with ID (if it ever stops raining)
