      I've got lots of cacti and I don't know which is the spiniest lol
      However I do have one Opuntia (don't know the specific epithet) and I keep well away from it because the glochids are vicious !

        Define spiniest cactus. Do you mean the most spines, the longest or simply the most vicious.
        Ferocactus hamatacanthus, Long, hooked and sharp.
        Ferocactus hamatacanthus.JPG
        Another unknown covered with sharp spikes.

        Mammalaria bombycina could win on several counts, number and hookedness

        Cactus "with no name" Probably a ferocactus species. Sharp and stout prone to unprovoked attacks

        I'll have a look in the greenhouse later for some more spiney cacti.

          Not the spiniest, but by far the most vicious. The spines are very thin and feel almost like soft bits of translucent thread... Almost. :yikes: They get absolutely everywhere.

          In hindsight, bathroom windowsill where one has to open the window behind daily is not perhaps the most intelligent placement of the plant. :scratch:

              @NigelJ

              what I meant Nigel , was the cactus that seems to bite you, when ever you get to close , the ones that look innocent, but leave you picking and scratching all night :)

              In that case go for Epiphyllum hybrids have hair like transparent spikes that slip in, disappear and hurt until they emerge in a lump some time later.

                No photos at the mo, but I have a plethora of scratchy bitey things!
                Various opuntias, echinocactus, ferocactus and a whole host of other stuff that 'get yer' as soon as you look at them....I love 'em!!
                I also grow a lot of stabby succulents and palms:yikes:

                  I only have 3, in my diy cactus kit brought from the US. They all are spiny but the Ferocactus (latispinus?) is the most vicious.

                    Your cactus are looking great together in their bowl, and I see what you mean about the ferocactus, looks vicious

                    Although slow growing, the Ferocactus is growing into the other two and will have to be split up, shame I liked the bowl they came with.
