The trail camera takes photos with infrared light and does not make a sound, however, deer seem to always be looking right at it. Doe.JPG

We have two chipmunks that are quite tame, their names are Simon and Gerty. Simon has been with us a number of years, Gerty just one. They fight all the time, to the point that Simon is missing part of his right ear and half of his tail. Still, Simon is dominant and Gerty steers clear of him. They come to the door when you call them and will climb on you if you ignore them for any amount of time. And, both are always up for petting between the ears and cheek patch. Simon has long outlived the expected lifespan for chipmunks, and I hope he continues to do so. Right now they are frantically gathering food for their winter nap and I hope to see them both again in the spring.

How adorable! I think you are fortunate to have such lovely creatures visit you and let you hold them. May they continue to visit.

                Yes, so cute!

Being well fed by yourself may have something to do with that.

                  Sheal,

I truly believe that. About ten years ago I was sitting on the deck reading a book and heard a noise under the chaise lounge and there was a baby chipmunk. My granddaughter named him Simon so it stuck. We give him peanuts, sunflower seeds, red and green grapes and raisins with fresh water every day. The average life span in the wild is three years, in captivity six years, Simon is now ten. My granddaughter is now in high school and she was just a child when she named Simon. He has never had to forage for food so that may have a lot to do with it.

I think feeding the wildlife certainly makes a difference @hydrogardener. I've been host to a family of pheasants for some weeks now - parents and four youngsters. They are fully grown now and the only young male amongst them is currently a strange mix of colours as he changes into adult plumage. I only put food down for them twice a day as they are greedy like seagulls and would eat non-stop. Pheasants only live for about three years in the wild too.

Found these in a bucket that has had a tomato plant in it.
