What's looking Exotic in 2021

I've never noticed it being vicious, slightly rough texture, but I wouldn't say thorny.

 

Mine has just finished flowering, so there will be a bit of a problem when the old rosettes die and I have to extract them from the pot- I agree with @pete it's a bit spiky but nowhere as vicious as Puya. I had a previous one where the little blue flowers showed much better (below)- are there any variants available I wonder? It did look a bit different in leaf. Some mentioned f. canaliculatus...

 

I broke up two large pot fulls of this back in the spring, they had been in the pots 10years plus.

I gave a big bag of single rosettes, with the base intact, away.
The blue flowers are almost insignificant but when you notice them it's such a strange combination.

 

Exactly @pete - in my current plant you could easily miss them, but I'd swear they were bigger and better in the previous plant - which died

 

Calliandra surinamensis, seem that the main flush is late this year as up until now it only had three flowers.

 

Hedychium gardnerianum "Kahil Ginger" had this for 5 years or so now and this is the first flower.

 

Its the best one in my opinion, nice scent as well.

@Michael Hewett I'm hoping it will make a habit of flowering and it was just getting to flowering size and not due to the odd weather this year.

 

@NigelJ A nice variety, I have had H. raffillii for about 6 years now, grows to 6ft each year but has never flowered.

 

Gloxinia ... the only flower that opened from two bulbs/corms (?) the others all turned brown before opening.
Does anyone know why this would happen ?

I used to grow these a long time ago and always treated them as a greenhouse pot plant.

 

I put it outside to take the photo, it's been growing in a conservatory. I thought the photo would come out better in natural light.

 

Ok, you caught me out there.

Other than that idea, can't think why the buds would dry up and go brown.

Humidity, watering, feeding,too much blazing sunshine.
