What about someone like me who comes into all those categories? :old: :roflol:

All our doors have glass panels apart from the toilet and bathroom :noidea:

Not sure about that - what about epileptics?

How does that help if it's a carbon monoxide detector activating in a room behind a glazed door?

With the exception of my shower rooms (when in use) I don't shut any internal doors. Will that become a requirement too?

That's another thought. If we have more than one appliance that gives off carbon monoxide in the house, what use is one detector going to be? I don't need one at all but it's still a requirement. Once again the government has launched this 'wonderful' idea without thinking it through and researching it properly first.

What heating system do have @Sheal ? Gas and oil heaters potentially produce carbon monoxide, not sure about wood burners and all electric systems are safe as far as I know.

The carbon monoxide alarm has a totally different sound and is in the kitchen/utility room.

If it's a smoke alarm we would see through the glass which room it was that had the fire.

We, also, don't shut doors. The Fire Service man said that we should but I told him we won't do that. Next thing will be them telling us to have a fire extinguisher alongside the bed! :rolleyespink:

I have an oil boiler @JWK but it's in the garage. I also have a wood burner that has never been used and probably never will be.

You will probably have to fit door closers, and it will become illegal to wedge doors open.:roflol:

Not possible for people that can only get around using a walker. What about houses that are open plan? :heehee:

Ve have vays of making you valk.;)

Well if its open plan then surely its treated as a single roomed house, so only one detector will be needed.

@Sheal , problem solved, remove all your internal doors.;)

I'll take all the doors off then. I can't sleep with my bedroom door shut.

Edit: Two minds with one thought Pete. :heehee:

With a linked ststem all the alarms would be going off.

With a linked system you'd need to carry on checking every other room with detectors in case there was more than one problem.

You can get door closers with a hold open setting but it will release allowing them to close when the fire alarm is activated. They are commonly used in places like homeless hostels to discourage occupants from doing silly things like wedging fire doors open (or propping open with fire extinguishers).

Any heater that has a flame can potentially produce carbon monoxide; so that includes wood burners and paraffin heaters.

Seems much safer to me not to have a linked system. I'd much rather have separate alarms with different sounds so that I know what the problem is. :blue thumb: In that case, if they all go off then it's time to bug out quickly with a quick glance to see the cause on the way. Linked is definitely not needed in our place as we can hear just one alarm all over the place. Like @Sheal , we don't close doors.

That's where glass in doors helps as you can see without going in.

                      :heehee:

Then you would end up with a smoke alarm in the kitchen as you're then open plan - and that's not recommended. Do you burn the toast often? :roflol:

On a related subject:- some of the advice on safety re burglary seems to clash with that of fire etc. When indoors 'lock your entry/exit doors and don't keep the key in the door' but put it in reach somewhere. Sounds reasonable but not if you have a fire and are already panicking.

Out of curiosity, how many of you have had a home fire, carbon monoxide release or been burgled?

We only have doors to the main bathroom and to the office/spare room which has it's own en suite with only saloon style swing doors between them. Same type doors to kitchen. No door to our bedroom. Fairly well open plan with arched doorways.
