Finished preparing greenhouse for the next season. Washed with soap, dug beds, added grass clippings and old horse manure. Watered for 3 days (it turned to be, I completely dried the soil inside). Finally today sowed phacelia.

        Happy Thanksgiving @CanadianLori

I can't do much at the moment because my patio is being reconstructed and everything that was on it, and everything that was in a perspex/glass lean-to is strewn all over the garden, it's difficult to reach anywhere, but I have managed to cut some things bac and fill four sacks for the recycling bin.

I got some mowing in (had to wait for the tyre centre down the road to replace the inner tube on the barrow before mowing) and removed most of the second Shineyframe after picking the rest of the Bridgwater beans that have gone to seed. They've been put on the top shelf in the greenhouse to dry out properly. Once dried they get put into a screw top jar as they always have little bugs in them (found that out when we worked out (only in the second year) where all the little crawlers came from. They're like tiny little beetles and leave holes in the seeds but don't affect the germination. When they have been jarred we then keep them in the utility room. In the Spring we tip the seeds out on the table outdoors, get rid of the dozens of bugs and sow the seeds. We still get virtually 100% germination.

Mrs Shiney has been working on sowing seeds, collecting and cataloguing cosmos, and other, seeds in different colour groupings and storing them in the empty foil sachets of coffee that she saves for that purpose. They get given to visitors and friends. She also cut down a load of dogwood - eight barrowloads that I trundled to the bonfire heap (burnt the last bonfire Sunday evening whilst the wind was blowing across the field - and the neighbours dropped their stuff over the fence to be added to the fire). The dogwoods have got a bit out of hand and we'll work on the rest. :phew:

Yesterday planted some more polyanthus and probably do some more this afternoon, nearly finished planting around the path.

Began filling the newly vacated area in our border by the fruit trees. Moved a Dahlia ( wrong time of year I know) that will be left insitu for the winter to see whether or not it establishes itself ( a bit of an experiment :fingers crossed:) planted a couple of Heucheras and a handful of left over Wallflowers. Will also plant some Tulips next month. At least it won't look quite so bare for the time being.

Dug up and potted a Lavender to take up to son and girlfriend....they asked if we had a spare one!!:)
Potted up some Strawberry plants for them too.

Over the last few days I have been drying out spent compost on trays , leaving them outside for the birds to search out any lurking bugs. This got bagged up and will be used as a mulch over my 'insitu' Dahlias. A couple more trayfuls will get bagged today too.

I've been planting a few bulbs - miniature Narcissi and some rockery Tulips.
I also cut some liner to put inside my raised bed because the chap that built it didn't make the liner come up to the top, and the soil keeps going down between the liner and the wood.
Also had a 'idea' :yikes: and I thought I'd have a greenhouse :yikes: It will be a lot of work rearranging things to make room for it but it is on my mind now :dunno:

Did a bit more cutting back and tidying up this morning. Dug up and potted up the 3 large Fuchsias that were in our large Urn planters and a couple of Pelargoniums that I found I had missed.

Started planting a border up with a hardy fuchsia 2 lupins and a rose. Going to plant some tulips and wallflowers there.

T'pther Half watered and I sowed some Salvia coccinea "Scarlet" or "Texas" Sage to see if I can start it now.

That's a lovely view of your garden @wiseowl

I have been tidying and cutting things back.
I had a large Viburnum tinus but something has been eating the flower buds so I cut it back and then
I got stung on my arm by a wasp :heehee:

I have a young winter flowering Viburnum Tinus 'Gwenllian' that was almost completely stripped of flowers and leaves last winter by deer. Could that be what has devoured yours @Michael Hewett?

Thank you @Sheal, however there are no deer around here, and anyway they couldn't get into my garden. I believe the damage is caused by some sort of insect because although the leaves are still there some of them are distorted.
